BACKGROUND: Segmental vitiligo is characterized by a unilateral and localized distribution. So far, the underlying mechanism is still an enigma.
OBJECTIVES: To get an insight into the aetiopathogenesis of segmental vitiligo by comparison with the distribution pattern of dermatoses with a possible mosaic or neurogenic background.

An association of melanocytic nevus with eccrine glands has been well-documented and well-known as eccrine-centered nevus. Non-giant congenital nevi sometimes contain angiocentric and/or adnexocentric growth of nevus cells. Blood vessels are the most prominent site of nevus cell infiltration and propagation. In our specimen, the second was eccrine ducts. These selective sites of infiltration gave rise to a linear pattern of nevus cell distribution. BACKGROUND: Little is known about the significance of severe architectural disorder in small melanocytic lesions with features of dysplastic nevi (DN).
METHODS: Using previously reported criteria, 355 consecutive DN were scored for architectural disorder and cytologic atypia. The DN were classified according to their size as small (equal or less than 3 mm) or large (greater than 3 mm).

OBJECTIVE: Longitudinal melanonychia (LM) is a common dermatologic problem encountered in everyday practice. Its diagnostic approach is critical as it can be an early sign of nail melanoma. Racial melanonychia is the entity most frequently associated with LM. Because there are no clinical data regarding these associations in a Mexican population, we conducted a prospective study.
METHODS: A total of 68 consecutive patients given the clinical diagnosis of LM were included and a nail biopsy was performed to determine its cause.

Recently, Happle and Tinschert [Acta Derm Venereol 2008;88:382-387] described the case of a multisystem birth defect with segmentally arranged basaloid follicular hamartomas associated with extracutaneous defects in the form of short leg, polydactyly and hypoplastic teeth. BACKGROUND: Because of the limitations of medical treatment, various surgical therapies have been developed and are being accepted to treat vitiligo. However, certain areas such as the fingers and toes, palms and soles, lips, eyelids, nipples and areolas, elbows and knees, and genitals are considered difficult-to-treat areas.

The current treatment of hyperpigmentation relies on multiple modalities to achieve satisfactory cosmetic results. Patients are savvy consumers who often present to physicians asking about the latest treatments and breakthroughs. By combining topical bleaching agents, chemical peels, laser therapy, and adequate photo-protection, many pigmentary disorders can be successfully treated. A review of recent trials and new technologies will be discussed.

We describe a 3-year-old girl with intractable, debilitating pruritus associated with a giant congenital melanocytic nevus, resulting in life-threatening anemia from extensive bleeding skin excoriations. Multiple conventional oral and topical antipruritic medications failed to provide relief, but the patient was successfully treated with the selective serotonin 5-hydroxytryptamine type 3 inhibitor ondansetron, suggesting a serotonin-related mechanism to her pruritus.

We studied 20 Caucasian middle-aged patients, mostly women, who had asymptomatic, gray-brown patches with geographic borders, occasionally interspersed with hypopigmented macules, on the dorsum of the forearms, mostly bilaterally.
