INTRODUCTION: The Tamil film Chithha (2023) addresses the growing relevance of child sexual abuse in native cinema contexts. The study examines how narratives about care, trust and abuse create and disrupt the portrayal of masculine guardian roles. METHODS: Using critical discourse analysis, key scenes were selected and interpreted through Bronfenbrenner's ecological systems theory to connect individual experiences of harm with broader family, community, and institutional structures. RESULTS: The narrative explores multiple layers of theoretical approaches for analyzing child sexual abuse wi

The Inventory of Personality Organization (IPO) self-report rating scale and its 16-item short version were developed to assess personality organization based on this model. This study aimed (i) to examine the factor structure of the short, 16-item vers

Patterns of Transition of Adolescents in an HIV Care Programme in Peri-Urban Cape Town, South Africa: A Photovoice Study.

Successful transition from paediatric to adult HIV care programme is a critical developmental milestone in the care trajectory of adolescents living with HIV (ALHIV). The transition process involves a shift from a structured, caregiver-supported healthcare model to one that requires independence and self-management. This process should be guided and supportive to ensure continued engagement in care and optimal adherence when ALHIV are transferred. This study utilised photovoice methods to explore the transition experiences of ALHIV in the Cape Town Metropole. Audio-recorded focus group data we

Economic collapse under epidemic-induced lockdowns and its prediction: A coupled dynamics approach.

The sudden outbreak of an epidemic poses a significant challenge to alleviating global poverty. To suppress the epidemic, governments impose restrictions on social and economic activities. While most studies discuss the indirect impact of social restrictions on disease and the economy, the effects of economic restrictions-such as workplace and business closures, workforce capacity limits, international trade and travel restrictions, and supply chain disruptions (collectively called economic lockdown)-exert a harsh impact on the economy, which remains largely overlooked. This study addresses th

Creating a Community-Based Medical Clinic Dedicated to Patients Experiencing Homelessness in New York City (NYC): The Weill Cornell Street Medicine Clinic.

Patients experiencing homelessness (PEH) continue to experience acute and chronic medical vulnerabilities in the United States. In the acute setting, these disparities increase hospital readmission rates, utilization of optimal treatment, and mortality. In the chronic setting, these disparities increase housing instability, medical deterioration, and mortality. These vulnerabilities are exacerbated in New York City (NYC), with PEH experiencing longer hospital stays, increased hospitalization costs, and disproportionate mental health and substance use hospitalizations. Over the past few decades

Cancer Prevention and Screening for People Experiencing Homelessness: Co-Designing the Health Navigator Model.

BACKGROUND: People experiencing homelessness (PEH) face major barriers to accessing healthcare, including cancer preventive services, which results in increased cancer morbidity and mortality. However, tailored integrated care interventions addressing these disparities are scarce. METHODS: Using a qualitative, participatory approach, seven focus group discussions were conducted with 15 PEH and 41 health and social care professionals in Austria, Greece, Spain, and the UK. Data were thematically analysed using a framework based on ten core components of navigation interventions. RESULTS: Colla

How Cognitive Reserve Could Protect from Dementia? An Analysis of Everyday Activities and Social Behaviors During Lifespan.

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: In the last decade, there has been a notable increase in the prevalence of cognitive decline among the elderly population. This phenomenon is further compounded by the concurrent rise in life expectancy, indicating a growing concern for the health and well-being of individuals in this demographic. Dementia has become a disease with a strong social impact, not exclusively limited to its health dimension. It is generally accepted that lifestyle factors and psychological attitudes toward life challenges may serve as protective mechanisms against pathological cognitive decli

Quantity-Sourced or Quality-Sourced? The Impact of Word-of-Mouth Recommendations on China Rural Residents' Online Purchase Intention: The Chain Mediating Roles of Social Distance and Perceived Value.

This study examines how different types of word-of-mouth (WOM) influence online purchase intention (OPI) among rural residents, an area not yet fully explored. Based on social tie strength theory, we classify WOM into "quantity-sourced" (e.g., friends, family, general consumers) and "quality-sourced" (e.g., influencers, celebrities, professionals). We propose a chain mediation model involving social distance (SD) and perceived value (PV). Using survey data from 1005 rural residents in Jiangxi Province, China, and analyzing the data with structural equation modeling (SmartPLS 4), we find that q

Experiences and expectations of residents and professionals of supported accommodations for people with serious mental disorders in Portugal.

PURPOSE: Most studies on supported accommodations (SAs) for people with serious mental disorders have focused on effectiveness. Very few analysed the experiences and expectations of residents and professionals of SAs, which is fundamental to improving care. This study aimed to explore in depth the perspectives of residents and professionals of SAs in Portugal regarding the residents' previous contacts with mental health services, current experiences, and expectations. METHODS: A purposeful sample of 11 residents and 11 professionals from 11 different organisations managing SAs in Portugal was

Children with and without reading difficulty value robot reading companions that are smart, supportive, and personalised.

As social robots are being increasingly deployed in educational settings, it is critically important to understand which design features make robots most likely to be accepted by children and to deliver benefits in education contexts. To deepen our understanding of young readers' expectations, needs, and desires for a robot that supports reading, we conducted co-design sessions followed by a semi-structured interview with children aged 5-9 years (30 children with typical reading and a case series of five children with poor reading, of which four were enroled in reading interventions at the tim
