An electrophoretic dot immunobinding assay and a modified western blotting method were established. The components and antigenity of the membranous labyrinth proteins of guinea pigs were analysed. There are the same epitopes between some components of the antigen, between the antigen and extractives of acoustic nerve, cochlear nuclei, kidney and Klebsiella pneumoniae. The antigen distributes in stria vascularis, spiral ligament, spiral ganglion, the organ of Corti and Reissner's membrane etc.

Three cases of small intestinal phytobezoar, suggested by sonography and later confirmed at surgery, are reported. Sonographic findings of bezoar were intraluminal mass presenting as an arc-like surface echo casting clear posterior acoustic shadow within the lumen of the dilated small bowel. Compression of the mass with a transducer induced fluid shift around the mass. We propose that diagnosis of bezoars can be suggested on the basis of sonographic findings.

We report the case of a baby with transient generalized stiffness noticeable from the first days of life, hyperreflexia, massive jerks in response to sudden tactile and acoustic stimuli, and long-lasting myoclonic jerks closely resembling epileptic seizures. The father and paternal grandfather both had hyperekplexia. At age 3 years, the child had normal psychomotor development and persistent abnormal startle response to unexpected sounds or touch.

In a series of over 500 cases of cerebellopontine angle tumors, 19 patients had bilateral neurinomas. Four of these tumors arose from the facial rather than the acoustic nerve. A conservative policy regarding surgery had been adopted in an effort to prevent hearing loss for as long as possible. Nevertheless, all patients operated on in this series are now totally deaf. The results of managing these patients surgically and conservatively are discussed.

Perforation of the footplate in otosclerosis can be performed accurately, when the large and high energetic CO2 laser focus is reduced to 0.5 mm in diameter by an aluminium diaphragm. The operation was performed on three dogs. BAEPs were evoked by bone-conducted acoustic stimuli. Hearing threshold was unchanged immediately after operation as well as after 2 and 6 weeks postoperatively. The new method has still to be performed in man.

Follow-up sonographic studies of five infants whose initial sonograms had displayed evidence for the diagnosis of cholelithiasis demonstrated spontaneous resolution of the gallbladder defects. These defects may have been caused by tumefactive sludge with acoustic shadowing. Whether sludge or gallstones are being imaged, in the absence of other clinical or imaging evidence of biliary tract disease, conservative (i.e., nonsurgical) management and serial sonograms are recommended.

A 47-year-old man presented with the clinical findings of acute cholecystitis. During hepatobiliary scintigraphy using Tc-99m DISIDA, a persistent photopenic defect was noted within the inferior portion of the liver in the region of the gallbladder. Abdominal ultrasonography revealed large gallstones with acoustic shadowing within a normal-sized gallbladder. Eleven large gallstones were found within a normal-sized intrahepatic gallbladder at surgery.

Impedance measurements (model Madsen ZO 72) were performed on 158 patients with otosclerosis and compared with the operative findings. It was found that otosclerosis shows in 95% of the cases a symmetrical tympanogram, type A. Its amplitude does not differ from the standard values: that means that otosclerosis does not correlate with a flattened amplitude of the tympanogram. In addition there is no correlation between the intraoperative finding and the ampitude. The stapedius reflex could not be elicitated by acoustic stimuli.

OBJECTIVE: Aphasia is a frequent sequela of stroke, affecting approximately 25%-40% of stroke survivors due to focal damage to language-related brain regions. In resource-constrained settings like India, timely screening is limited by the cost of neuroimaging and the time-intensive nature of conventional pen-and-paper assessments. METHODS: A total of 117 patients were divided into the lacunar group, non-lacunar cerebral infarction group, and control group from Anhui No.2 Provincial People's Hospital. Parkinson's disease (PD) alters both speech and movement, yet most automated assessments still treat these signals separately.
