INTRODUCTION: Tubo-ovarian abscess (TOA) is a conglomerated mass of pelvic organs including the tube, the ovary, and the bowel. The most commonly isolated organisms from TOAs are Escherichia coli (E. coli) and Bacteroides species.

A mouse model for Chlamydia suis genital infection was developed. Ninety-nine mice were randomly divided into three groups and intravaginally inoculated with chlamydia: 45 mice (group 1) received C. suis purified elementary bodies (EBs), 27 (group 2) were inoculated with C. trachomatis genotype E EBs and 27 mice (group 3) with C. trachomatis genotype F EBs. The aim of this study was to assess the prevalence of asymptomatic ultrasonographic TOMs in women with HIV and to identify associated factors in order to formulate a selective ultrasonographic screening strategy. We present a patient with a tubo-ovarian abscess pathologically confirmed to be actinomycosis in a 44-year-old woman with an intrauterine device (IUD). An ultrasound showed that the IUD was imposed on an apparently degenerated myoma. A pelvic MRI was performed to differentiate the uterine findings from a sarcoma. To discern characteristic computed tomography (CT) findings of tubo-ovarian abscess (TOA), we retrospectively reviewed the CT and pathological findings on 22 cases of TOA in 13 patients. The main pelvic lesion on CT mostly corresponded to ovarian abscess, and satellite lesions corresponded to pyosalpinx on pathological examination. We conclude that the characteristics of CT findings that may be suggestive of TOA are peripherally enhancing low-density pelvic mass, anterior displacement of the round ligament, and, especially, the presence of satellite lesions adjacent to main masses.

INTRODUCTION: Gestational choriocarcinoma associated with ectopic pregnancy is an extremely rare event. We report a case of a choriocarcinoma arising from a cornual pregnancy.
CASE: The patient is a 35-year-old G8 P2052 who was referred to our department due to failure of treatment for a suspected ectopic pregnancy. The patient had initially been treated with methotrexate injection but her beta-hCG levels reached a plateau 3 weeks later and, despite another two methotrexate injections, started to rise. The patient underwent dilation and curettage that did not reveal any trophoblastic tissue.

A case-controlled study of the prevalence of genital Chlamydia trachomatis infection in 120 patients with tubal infertility (study group) and 120 clients of the family planning clinic (control group) attending the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital, Zaria in northern Nigeria is reported.
