BACKGROUND: The Expanded Program on Immunization Contact Method (EPI-CM) is a proposed monitoring and program management tool for developing countries. The method involves health workers tallying responses to questions about health behaviors during routine immunizations and providing targeted counseling. BACKGROUND: Adults with intellectual disabilities (IDs) experience health inequalities and are more likely to live in deprived areas. The aim of this study was to determine whether the extent of deprivation of the area a person lives in affects their access to services, hence contributing to health inequalities.
METHOD: A cross-sectional study design was used. Interviews were conducted with all adults with IDs within a defined location (n = 1023), and their medical records were reviewed. The extent of area deprivation was defined by postcode, using Carstairs scores.

Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is the most prevalent malignancy in white individuals and continues to be a serious health problem. Individuals who have sustained exposure to UV radiation are at the highest risk for developing BCC. The aim of this study was to compare the features of BCC in outdoor workers (OWs) with a history of occupational exposure to UV radiation versus indoor workers (IWs). In 106 workers aged 18 to 56 years, occupationally exposed to organic solvents of paints and varnishes containing benzene, toluene and xylene for 1 to 122 months, the spontaneous and the stimulated reduction of nitroblue tetrazolium (NBT) in neutrophils was estimated. In all the subjects studied, both the spontaneous and the stimulated reduction of NBT was increased. However, after longer occupational exposure to benzene and its homologues the stimulated NBT reduction decreases. The negative correlation between the number of NBT-positive stimulated neutrophils and the exposure time was noted.
