A 71-year-old Japanese man presented with a 2-month history of diplopia. He had been followed up at another hospital for ocular sarcoidosis for 3 years. Our work examined the production of intracellular interferon (INF)-γ, tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α, interleukin (IL)-2, and IL-4 by in vitro stimulated CD3+ cells from 38 chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) patients. At the time of diagnosis the percentages of cells producing INF-γ, TNF-α, and IL-2 were strongly suppressed compared to those in healthy control subjects. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the association between five interleukin-1 (IL-1) and -6 gene polymorphisms and risk of high grade cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN 2-3).
METHODS: This case-control study investigates five common IL-1 and IL-6 gene polymorphisms in 131 women with CIN 2-3 and 209 controls by pyrosequencing and polymerase chain reaction. Meningococcal secreted proteins (MSPs) have been poorly characterized. We hypothesized that MSPs play essential roles in host--bacterial interactions and in the pathogenesis of disease.
