[Depressive syndromes in the immigrant population].

Migrations are currently one of the most important sociocultural and political phenomena. As a rule, immigrants are in good health, although the immigration is by itself a mental health risk factor. This population shows common specific problems as adaptation processes, depressive syndromes, or other psychiatric problems. "Ulises' syndrome", depression, and dysthymia are the most common mental health conditions among unlawful non-european community immigrants cared in specific facilities. Similarly to the spanish indigenous population, anxiety disorders and readjustment disorders are the most

[Health needs and organization of care in prison].

The prison population in France is mostly composed of young but aging men, in relatively good health but vulnerable. In order to ensure optimal health care for this population, several levels of health care organization - somatic and psychiatric - have been set up since 1994. The different structures created since then allow incarcerated patients to benefit from care adapted to their particular conditions.

Multiple health behaviours: overview and implications.

BACKGROUND: More remains unknown than known about how to optimize multiple health behaviour change. METHODS: After reviewing the prevalence and comorbidities among major chronic disease risk behaviours for adults and youth, we consider the origins and applicability of high-risk and population strategies to foster multiple health behaviour change. RESULTS: Findings indicate that health risk behaviours are prevalent, increase with age and co-occur as risk behaviour clusters or bundles. CONCLUSIONS: We conclude that both population and high-risk strategies for health behaviour intervention are

GeoLaus, a Study on the Influence of Geo-Environmental Characteristics on Population Health Abstract. Geographic information on risk factors for health or disease is increasingly being used to understand the determinants of health. GeoLaus is a project initiated in 2015 that studies the impact of living spaces and socio-economic situation, on physical and mental health and on different lifestyle habits. This paper discusses and illustrates the use of spatial information in CoLaus to understand the determinants of obesity and daytime sleepiness. The first results of the GeoLaus study open new p…

Experiences of Healthcare Professionals in Home Based-Caring for Children With Type 1-Diabetes in Vulnerable Positions: A Qualitative Study.

INTRODUCTION: Providing home-based care to children with type 1 diabetes (T1D) places healthcare professionals (HCPs) in complex and demanding practice contexts. Outside the clinic, HCPs must adapt their expertise to families' everyday lives, navigate shifting roles and manage emotional and relational challenges, particularly when working with vulnerable families. These situations often involve competing priorities, social constraints and complex family dynamics that challenge conventional care approaches and require additional competencies and support. Despite this, HCPs' perspectives remain

Digital patient decision aids for cancer prevention in socially disadvantaged women: A scoping review protocol.

This scoping review aims to map and analyze the existing evidence on digital Patient Decision Aids (PtDAs) for cancer prevention targeting socially disadvantaged women. Cancer is a leading cause of premature mortality among women. Cancer prevention strategies can effectively reduce cancer incidence and mortality. Socially disadvantaged women face lower screening rates and higher mortality. Effective cancer prevention requires informed decision-making. One approach is the use of digital PtDAs. They represent a promising innovation for this population. However, their characteristics, development

A geospatial analysis of access to syringe services programs in the United States, 2023.

BACKGROUND: Syringe services programs (SSPs) deliver essential services to people who use drugs, including safer drug use supplies, infectious disease testing, and naloxone distribution. Geographic proximity influences SSP utilization and health outcomes, yet no national measures of travel-time access exist. We estimated geographic access to SSPs across the United States and assessed alignment with factors related to need. METHODS: We conducted a cross-sectional analysis of 701 SSPs operating in 2023 and listed in the Syringe Services Programs in the U.S. DATASET: SSP addresses were geocoded

Intersectionality of Race, Rurality on Persistent Poverty Disparities in Cancer Mortality in Alabama.

INTRODUCTION: Counties in persistent poverty (PP) have higher cancer-related mortality rates. Intersectionality with race and rurality is present; individuals identifying as Black residing in rural PP counties have the highest cancer-related mortality rates. However, heterogeneity exists throughout counties (e.g., demographics). To date, few studies evaluated the effect of small-area PP residence on individual-level survival and intersectionality with race and rurality. METHODS: This retrospective cohort utilized Alabama Statewide Cancer Registry data of adults with breast, prostate, colorect

Built environment effects on older adults' health mediated by leisure activities and social participation in Dong settlements of Western Hunan.

Against the dual backdrop of population aging and China's Rural Revitalization Strategy, investigating the mechanisms through which the built environment in traditional settlements is associated with older adults' health is of substantial significance. Taking traditional Dong ethnic settlements in Western Hunan as a case study, a theoretical model encompassing "objective environment-subjective perception-behavioral mediation-health outcomes" was constructed to examine the associations and pathways linking the built environment to older adults' health, with leisure activities and social partici

Urban environments and depression among older adults: policy implications from the WHO age-friendly cities framework.

BACKGROUND: Depression is a significant mental health concern among older adults and is often exacerbated by environmental and social factors. Despite rapid global urbanisation and ageing populations, few empirical studies have explored the associations between age-friendly urban environments and depression in older populations. This study investigated the relationship between the World Health Organization (WHO) Age-Friendly Cities Framework and depression among older adults in South Korea, aiming to derive urban planning and policy implications for healthy ageing. METHODS: We analysed data f

Beyond Geography: Using a Cluster-Based Analysis to Conceptualize the Rurality of Veterans Health Administration Hospitals.

PURPOSE: Rural veterans experience challenges and strengths related to military service and rural residence. Defining rurality for healthcare facilities is vital for allocating resources, estimating impacts of rural health initiatives, and evaluating rural veteran access and outcomes. While geolocation is one way of conceptualizing rural healthcare facilities, rurality exists on a continuum and is influenced by many factors. The purpose of this work was to create an empirically informed taxonomy of VHA acute care hospitals that moves beyond a geography-based classification alone and to propose

Typhoid Fever Surveillance and Vaccination Recommendations: WHO Eastern Mediterranean Region, 2021.

Annually, there are 5.57 to 9.23 million typhoid fever cases and 46,200 to 163,000 associated deaths, mainly in low- and middle-income countries. High incidence is estimated in the Southeast Asian, African, and Eastern Mediterranean (EMR) regions of the WHO. We reviewed EMR typhoid surveillance and vaccination recommendations to inform regional prevention and control efforts. Separate surveys were sent to surveillance and immunization officers in all 21 EMR countries and the occupied Palestinian territory, with 17 surveys (77%) and 13 surveys (59%) completed, respectively. Fifteen countries ro

Is labor force participation detrimental to the mental health of rural older adults? The mediating role of attitudes toward aging.

BACKGROUND: Population aging is a significant global issue. In China, the widening urban-rural disparity in population aging has contributed to problems such as the hollowing out of rural areas and a decline in the labor force. This situation, in turn, has subjected older adults in rural areas to significant psychological pressure. Thus their mental health has been widely emphasized. This study is dedicated to analyzing the linkages between mental health, attitudes toward aging, and their labor force participation among rural Chinese older adults in order to promote the construction of an age-

Interest-holder priorities for health surveillance of people incarcerated in Canada: A qualitative study.

OBJECTIVES: As a core function of public health, health surveillance for people who are incarcerated could address gaps in knowledge regarding their health status. The views of people who could use these data and who are included in health surveillance data should inform health surveillance. In this study, we aimed to identify the priorities of interest-holders for health surveillance of people incarcerated in Canadian correctional facilities. STUDY DESIGN: We conducted an overall qualitative descriptive study with an embedded reflexive thematic analysis and a qualitative content analysis. M

Effectiveness of a resilience, gender equity and mental health group intervention for young people living in informal urban communities in North India: a cluster randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Mental health problems are the leading cause of disease burden among young people in India. While evidence shows that youth mental health and resilience can be improved with group interventions in school settings, such an intervention has not been robustly evaluated in informal urban settings. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to evaluate whether the Nae Disha 3 group intervention could improve youth resilience, mental health and gender equal attitudes among disadvantaged young people from low-income urban communities in India. METHODS: This cluster randomised controlled trial used an
