The potential severity of meningitis in infants and children requires an optimized initial empirical therapy, mainly based on direct cerebro spinal fluid (CSF) examination, and rapid therapeutic adaptation according to bacterial identification and susceptibility. PURPOSE: To report clinical manifestations and the bacteriologic profiles of three patients with bilateral bacterial keratitis following photorefractive keratectomy (PRK).
METHODS: Photorefractive keratectomy was performed for mild to moderate myopia or compound myopic astigmatism. Bandage contact lenses were fitted at the conclusion of each surgery. Bilateral infectious keratitis was diagnosed within 3 days after surgery. Smear and culture were obtained in all three cases. A prospective study was conducted to determine clinical and bacteriologic features and antibiotic resistance pattern of enterococci isolated from cases of bacteraemia over a 7-month period. Mycobacterium xenopi is very rare pathogen in Japan. We reported herein four cases of M. xenopi pulmonary disease. These patients were all male and their ages ranged from 53 to 72. They all had past history of pulmonary tuberculosis, including two cases who had been also treated for Mycobacterium kansasii pulmonary disease later.
