Splenic tuberculosis is uncommon. We report here splenic tuberculosis in 5 patients with fever of over 3 weeks duration. In the 5 patients, abdominal ultrasonography and/or abdominal computed tomography revealed multiple hypoechoic and hypodense splenic lesions. Diagnosis required biopsy of cervical lymph nodes in four cases and splenectomy in one. Propafenone is an antiarrhythmic drug used in the treatment of life-threatening ventricular tachyarrhythmias. Adverse reactions necessitating discontinuation of the medication are common. Propafenone-induced drug fever has not been definitively proven. We present a case report of drug fever secondary to propafenone, confirmed with rechallenge.

We report a case of brucellosis in a young Mexican man who had weight loss, fever, and nausea. Physical examination revealed hepatosplenomegaly, and examination of the blood showed pancytopenia. This case illustrates the need for a high index of suspicion when patients living in the southern United States have these symptoms.

The febrile illness has been present for eight years, and no diagnosis has been made despite extensive evaluation and testing. BACKGROUND: The incidence of typhoid fever in Spain from January 1982 to December 1993 was studied with the aim of analyzing how the disease has evolved over these years and predict its future behavior in order to facilitate prevention by the public health care organizations and centers.

The authors present a case of haemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome imported from a region of endemic occurrence of hantaviruses in the Balkans. The patient contracted the infection in connection with service in the Czech UNPROFOR unit. The affection manifested itself as renal insufficiency and required a total of seven haemodialyses for complete recovery. The epidemiological context and clinical course of the disease are described in detail.

A first case of leptospirosis has been recently described in Gabon where bioclimatological characteristics could favour the transmission of that disease. Therefore, a search for antibodies to leptospirae was conducted among 55 military Frenchmen with unexplained fever during a four-month stay in Gabon. Diarrhoea and typhoid fever are two important diseases in the developing world, particularly the Asian countries. The management of these conditions is becoming increasingly difficult in the face of emerging pathogen resistance. The new fluoroquinolones demonstrate good in vitro activity against the causative pathogens involved, including those that are multidrug resistant.
