A Meta-Analysis of the Efficacy of Ultrasound-Guided Nasojejunal Tube Placement.

BACKGROUND: Critically ill patients are prone to enteral nutrition interruptions during nutritional support, which are primarily due to gastroparesis and subsequent delayed gastric emptying and may hinder clinical recovery. Robust evidence supports the adoption of post-pyloric feeding in this population, with nasojejunal tube placement established as the gold-standard modality for achieving reliable transpyloric access while reducing aspiration risks. AIM: To evaluate the efficacy of ultrasound-guided nasojejunal tube placement in critically ill patients through a systematic review and meta-a

Comparative evaluation of the anesthetic efficacy of 4% buffered articaine versus 2% un-buffered lidocaine for dental injections in children: a double-blind randomized parallel group control trial.

BACKGROUND: Effective pain control is central to the pediatric dental practice. Buffering local anesthetics with sodium bicarbonate raises the solution pH to physiological levels, theoretically accelerating the onset and reducing injection discomfort. Although buffered lidocaine has been studied in children, direct evidence comparing buffered 4% articaine with the most widely used clinical alternative (non-buffered 2% lidocaine) in a pediatric outpatient setting with a comprehensive outcome assessment remains scarce. This study aimed to compare buffered 4% articaine with 1:100,000 epinephrine

Practice Change in Surgical Treatment Strategies for Ischaemic Mitral Regurgitation and Late Outcomes.

BACKGROUND: Ischaemic mitral regurgitation (IMR) results from dysfunctional myocardial remodelling, which portends a poor clinical prognosis. This study assessed the surgical treatment of IMR and its associations with clinical and echocardiographic outcomes in the context of 2014 reports suggesting non-surgical management of non-severe IMR. METHOD: Patients who underwent mitral valve (MV) procedures for IMR at Liverpool Hospital (Sydney, Australia) between 2008 and 2020 were included based on coronary disease and echocardiographic criteria. Data were obtained from patient records and linkage

Practice and proficiency of Isha Yoga for better mental health outcomes: insights from a COVID-19 survey.

INTRODUCTION: The COVID-19 pandemic has brought about unparalleled suffering on a global scale, affecting both physical and mental well-being. In such challenging times, it becomes crucial to identify interventions that can alleviate negative mental health outcomes, such as stress, while promoting positive mental health outcomes, like well-being. We report the effectiveness of a mind-body practise, Isha Yoga, in promoting well-being. METHODS: We conducted an online survey, during the COVID-19 pandemic, with Yoga practitioners (n = 1,352) from the Isha Yoga tradition in Karnataka, India. We ev

Integrating mixed reality preparation into acute coronary syndrome simulation for nursing students: a single-group pretest-posttest study.

BACKGROUND: Timely and effective intervention within the 'golden hour'-the critical first 90 min after the symptom onset-is crucial for initiating life-saving treatment and reducing mortality in acute coronary syndrome (ACS). This highlights the need for nursing students to be proficient in ACS care, emphasizing the importance of preparatory training. This study enhanced traditional simulation methods by integrating a mixed reality (MR) preparation step, offering a more immersive learning experience. We aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of integrating MR preparation into ACS simulation educa

Task-specific training versus usual care to improve upper limb function after stroke: the "Task-AT Home" randomised controlled trial protocol.

BACKGROUND: Sixty percent of people have non-functional arms 6 months after stroke. More effective treatments are needed. Cochrane Reviews show low-quality evidence that task-specific training improves upper limb function. Our feasibility trial showed 56 h of task-specific training over 6 weeks resulted in an increase of a median 6 points on the Action Research Arm test (ARAT), demonstrating the need for more definitive evidence from a larger randomised controlled trial. Task-AT Home is a two-arm, assessor-blinded, multicentre randomised, controlled study, conducted in the home setting. AIM:

Train the brain with music (TBM): brain plasticity and cognitive benefits induced by musical training in elderly people in Germany and Switzerland, a study protocol for an RCT comparing musical instrumental practice to sensitization to music.

BACKGROUND: Recent data suggest that musical practice prevents age-related cognitive decline. But experimental evidence remains sparse and no concise information on the neurophysiological bases exists, although cognitive decline represents a major impediment to healthy aging. A challenge in the field of aging is developing training regimens that stimulate neuroplasticity and delay or reverse symptoms of cognitive and cerebral decline. To be successful, these regimens should be easily integrated in daily life and intrinsically motivating. This study combines for the first-time protocolled music

Study protocol: developing, disseminating, and implementing a core outcome set for selective fetal growth restriction in monochorionic twin pregnancies.

BACKGROUND: Selective fetal growth restriction in monochorionic twin pregnancies is associated with an increased risk of perinatal mortality and morbidity and represents a clinical dilemma. Interventions include expectant management with early preterm delivery if there are signs of fetal compromise, selective termination of the compromised twin, fetoscopic laser coagulation of the communicating placental vessels or termination of the whole pregnancy. Previous studies evaluating interventions have reported many different outcomes and outcome measures. Such variation makes comparing, contrasting

The implementation effectiveness of the 'Strengthen your ankle' smartphone application for the prevention of ankle sprains: design of a randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Ankle sprains continue to pose a significant burden to the individual athlete, as well as to society as a whole. However, despite ankle sprains being the single most common sports injury and despite an active approach by various Dutch organisations in implementing preventive measures, large-scale community uptake of these preventive measures, and thus actual prevention of ankle sprains, is lagging well behind. In an attempt to bridge this implementation gap, the Dutch Consumer Safety Institute VeiligheidNL developed a freely available interactive App ('Strenghten your ankle' transl

Single and dual task gait training in people with Parkinson's disease: a protocol for a randomised controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Difficulty performing more than one task at a time (dual tasking) is a common and disabling problem experienced by people with Parkinson disease (PD). If asked to perform another task when walking, people with PD often take shorter steps or walk more slowly. Currently there is uncertainty about whether clinicians should teach people with PD to avoid dual tasking or whether they should encourage them to practice dual tasking with the hope that practice will lead to enhanced performance. This study will address this issue by comparing single to dual task gait training. METHODS AND D
