Fetal bowel obstruction has a prevalence of 1 in 3000 to 5000 live births. Ultrasonographic diagnosis is made by demonstrating distended loops of bowel. The Peutz-Jeghers syndrome is characterized by gastrointestinal polyposis and mucocutaneous melanin pigmentation. Between the complications are the appearance of gastrointestinal neoplasms. There is an increasing evidence suggesting the hamartoma-adenoma-carcinoma sequence in Peutz-Jeghers syndrome. We present a 32-years-old man with Peutz-Jeghers syndrome who developed an adenocarcinoma arising in a gastric hamartomatous polyp. We discuss the risk to develop gastrointestinal neoplasms and the necessity for periodic surveillance.

Forty-eight cases of chronic diarrhoea in children seen at King Khalid University Hospital over a 5-year period were analysed. The mean age at presentation was 1.8 years (range 0.08-10 years); 34 were boys and 14 girls. Forty-four patients were Saudi and four were non-Saudi Arabs. The case of a neonate presenting with respiratory distress who had an incarcerated Bochdalek hernia with perforation and meconium peritonitis and pleuritis is reported. In 4 dogs functional cholecystectomy was performed, 2 cannulas were inserted into the common bile duct and 9 pairs of the electrodes were implanted in the stomach and small intestine. During chronic experiments exteriorized tubes were disconnected for both monitoring of biliary secretion and intraduodenal infusions of buffer, standard bile, Na-taurocholate, Na-taurodeoxycholate and Na-taurochenodeoxycholate used in 3 various concentrations as well as mixtures of these salts. During other experiments Na-taurocholate was infused intravenously. In the control group biliary tubes were not opened.

Our experience in the management of 138 infants with various causes of intestinal obstruction has provided us with important principles of diagnosis and treatments that we adhere to in the course of our practice. 1. Twenty-seven patients with acute necrotizing pancreatitis were treated with the Lawson procedure, consisting of closed drainage of the lesser sac, cholecystostomy, gastrostomy and jejunostomy. Retrospectively, the effect of the treatment was judged in relation to mortality and morbidity. Thirteen patients (48%) died, all of them due to sepsis and multiple organ failure.
