We are summarizing some of the difficult pitfalls in tumors of the head and neck, which we have encountered in our biopsies referred for consultation as well as from our routine praxis in the last 20 years. Shortly we are presenting the following lesions of head and neck: multifocal sclerosing thyroiditis, mucoepidermoid carcinoma of the thyroid, solid cell nests, Chievitz organ, rhomboid glossitis, ectopic parathyroid, signet ring cell change of salivary glands, mucocele, epithelial misplacement of the vocal cord squamous cell epithelium, and angiomatoid nasal polyps.

The purpose of this case series is to characterize the CT and MRI features of pathology-proven inflammatory pseudotumors in the head and neck. Our search identified three orbital, one maxillary sinus, and one skull base inflammatory pseudotumor. All of the lesions demonstrated some degree of infiltrative features on imaging. Helicobacter (H.) suis has been associated with chronic gastritis and ulcers of the pars oesophagea in pigs, and with gastritis, peptic ulcer disease and gastric mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue lymphoma in humans. In order to obtain better insight into the genes involved in pathogenicity and in the specific adaptation to the gastric environment of H. suis, a genome analysis was performed of two H. suis strains isolated from the gastric mucosa of swine. Encephalocraniocutaneous lipomatosis (ECCL) is a rare neurocutaneous syndrome whose hallmark lesions are benign lipomas of the brain and spinal cord. The authors present a case of a male infant with ECCL who had extensive brainstem and spinal cord lipomas. The management of this patient's hydrocephalus, cervicomedullary compression, tethered cord, and scoliosis over the course of his first 2 years of life is described. This case report and review of the literature is presented to provide a synopsis of the problems likely to be encountered by neurosurgeons who treat patients with this syndrome.

Two cases of extraocular myositis in dogs are reported in a golden retriever and an Australian shepherd. This condition is characterized by sudden bilateral exophthalmos, the absence of pain and third eyelid protrusion, orbital sonography showing the enlargement of extraocular muscles, and a quick response to systemic steroids at an anti-inflammatory dose.
