Esthetic treatment of peri-implant soft tissue defects: a case report of a modified surgical-prosthetic approach.

A major esthetic concern is soft tissue defects around implant restorations, which often result in an extra long prosthetic crown. This report describes a modified prosthetic-surgical approach to the treatment of peri-implant horizontal and vertical soft tissue defects in an esthetically demanding patient. One month before surgery, the implant crown restoration was removed, the preexisting implant abutment was reduced, and a short provisional crown, at the level of the homologous contralateral incisor, was applied. A bilaminar technique, consisting of an envelope coronally advanced flap coveri

Short implants in the severely resorbed maxilla: a 2-year retrospective clinical study.

BACKGROUND: Although the predictability of endosseous dental implants is well documented, the restoration of the posterior region of the maxilla remains a challenge. The placement of short implants is one therapeutic option that reduces the need for augmentation therapy. PURPOSE: The purpose of this retrospective study was to assess the survival rates of 6 to 8.5 mm-long implants in the severely resorbed maxilla following a surgical protocol for optimized initial implant stability. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The study included 85 patients with 96 short (6-8.5 mm) implants (Brånemark System, Nobe

Long-term dental implant success and survival--a clinical study after an observation period up to 6 years.

The aim of the present work was to evaluate the long-term results of dental implants and the risk factors associated with implant survival and success rates. 108 patients were examined and the control consisted of medical history taking, clinical and radiographic examinations. The survival rate of dental implants was 96.0% and the success rate was 94.3%. Mucositis was found to be related to patients' age and the number of implant units placed. Peri-implantitis was often found in patients showing low standards of oral hygiene as well as in those who were not coming on regular dental visits. Muc

Immediate, single stage, truly anatomic zirconia implant in lower molar replacement: a case report with 2.5 years follow-up.

This report demonstrates the clinical use of a modified, truly anatomic, root-analogue zirconia implant for immediate replacement of a two-rooted, left first mandibular molar. A 50-year-old female patient with chronic apical periodontitis of the left mandibulary first molar was referred and the tooth was extracted. The mesial root had to be removed surgically due to a root fracture. A truly anatomical, root identical, roughened zirconia implant modified by macro-retentions was manufactured and placed into the extraction socket by tapping 7 days later. After 4 months a composite crown was cemen

Mid-term clinical and radiographic outcomes at minimum five-year follow-up after stemless reverse shoulder arthroplasty.

BACKGROUND: Stemless reverse total shoulder arthroplasty (rTSA) was developed to preserve humeral bone stock and facilitate revision surgery. While short-term outcomes are promising, mid-term data beyond five years remain limited. The purpose of this study was to evaluate clinical and radiographic outcomes at a minimum follow-up of five years after implantation of a stemless reverse shoulder prosthesis. We hypothesized that metaphyseal fixation would demonstrate sustained clinical function and stable radiographic integration at mid-term follow-up. METHODS: This retrospective case series inclu

A novel knee implant for total knee arthroplasty meets expectations at 10 years. First long-term follow-up report of clinical outcomes and survivorship.

PURPOSE: Achieving a "forgotten knee" after total knee arthroplasty (TKA) remains a primary goal in modern knee replacement surgery. Anatomic implant designs aim to replicate native knee anatomy and kinematics, potentially improving patient satisfaction and functional outcomes. This study evaluates the long-term clinical outcome and survivorship of the Persona Knee System at a minimum follow-up of 10 years. METHODS: 116 TKAs performed using the Persona Posterior Stabilised (PS) Knee System (Zimmer Biomet, Warsaw, Indiana, USA) between 2013 and 2014 at a high-volume orthopaedic centre were pro

Evaluation of a novel robotic testing method for stability and kinematics of total knee arthroplasty.

PURPOSE: This work developed a novel preclinical test of total knee replacements (TKRs) in order to explain TKR instability linked to patient dissatisfaction. It was hypothesized that stability tests on the isolated moving prostheses would provide novel comparative data on the stability and kinematics among TKR designs. METHODS: Three TKR designs, DePuy Synthes Attune MS, Stryker Triathlon and Zimmer Biomet Persona MC, were assessed using a robotic arm while flexing-extending 0-140°. Tests imposed 710 N body weight combined with three tibial loads: no anterior-posterior (AP) force, 90 N anter

A Novel Approach for Immediate Implant-Based Oral Rehabilitation in a Sjögren's Syndrome Patient Using Virtual Surgical and Prosthetic Planning.

Patients with Sjögren syndrome (SS) experience difficulties in wearing conventional dentures. After removal of all teeth, the oral rehabilitation is challenging and time consuming using conventional treatment protocols. Although implant-retained overdentures are beneficial for this specific patient group, the average total oral rehabilitation time (TORT) usually takes at least 9 months and needs to be reduced to increase patients' quality of life (QoL). In this paper, we report on a new treatment concept for immediate implant-based oral rehabilitation in a 77-year-old patient with partial eden
