Form rotation, figure directionality, and figure-ground discrimination were evaluated before and after 10 days of vestibular or aerobic exercises for 30 boys (7 to 12 yr.) who showed problems in learning, reading, and inattention. Pediculosis is an important and common health problem in both urban and rural areas of Kumba. To assess the sport activities and the previous management of asthmatic children with an exercise-induced bronchial obstruction (EIB), we studied 124 children, aged 8-17 years, with a history of EIB, which was confirmed in a free-running exercise test. Participation in school sports was regular in 38% of the children, irregular in 45% and absent in 17%. This article describes the development and implementation of a rural consortium of school-based programs for early detection and prevention of maladjustment. The program expanded considerably the reach of early services to young children. It also stimulated communication, interaction and support among professionals in participating districts. The cumulative streptococcal pyoderma and pharyngitis rates of 491 children followed over a period of three years were 19.8 and 15.7% respectively. Streptococcal infections occurred more commonly in Malays, in children from families with monthly household incomes of less than $500/- and in those living in attap/zinc-roofed houses. A total number of 1549 dogs from Miyagi Prefecture and the north coast area of Fukushima Prfecture were surveyed during a year from December 1976 to November 1977 for Brucella canis (B. canis). 173 of 1549 dogs (11.2%) were sero-positive to B. canis, and B. canis was isolated from 55 of 148 dogs examined, giving more than 3.6% for total 1549 dogs.
