BACKGROUND: Antibiotic self-medication and home storage are two common behaviors in the community that can lead to inappropriate or unnecessary use. This study investigated the prevalence and factors associated with these two behaviors among antibiotic users in Vietnam.
METHODS: In this cross-sectional study, 997 participants from six cities/provinces were selected using a convenience sampling method and directly interviewed from November 2023 to March 2024. Antibiotic home storage was assessed at the time of interviewing, while self-medication was assessed for the year right before this time

INTRODUCTION: Associations between cardiometabolic comorbidities and self-reported oral health (OH) are often underexplored in large biobank datasets. While these associations are unaffected by dental care access, they could be mediated by immune responses and inflammation.
OBJECTIVES: This study assessed the associations between cardiometabolic comorbidities and self-reported OH, periodontitis, and tooth loss using the International Classification of Diseases (ICD) codes in participants from the U.S. Veterans Affairs Million Veteran Program (MVP), adjusting for immune and inflammatory covari

Background/Objectives: Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), including Crohn's disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC), significantly affects patients' quality of life. Resilience and self-care are vital for disease management, yet their relationship with IBD remains underexplored. This study investigates how self-care behaviours influence resilience in patients with IBD, taking into account sociodemographic and clinical factors. Methods: This was a multicentre observational study. Data were collected during routine outpatient visits between April and June 2024. Participants (≥18 years) with an I

Cervical cancer is highly preventable through vaccination, early detection, and treatment, yet is the fourth most common cancer globally. HPV testing is superior to cytology for the detection of cervical pre-cancer, and jurisdictions around the world are implementing HPV primary screening, which offers the opportunity for self-screening, an important self-care intervention. Digital health solutions are also increasingly important components of self-care. In this study, we assessed the acceptability and completion of self-screening for cervical cancer offered through a digital platform within a

The present study examined the construct and incremental validity of the new Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-3 (MMPI-3) Antagonism (ANT) scale in the assessment of psychopathic personality traits given the centrality of the antagonism domain to this personality disorder construct. A sample of 231 individuals who had been recruited for subclinical psychopathy and externalizing traits from the general community was used. These participants had been administered a range of clinical interviews and self-report measures of psychopathy from which a four-factor model of psychopathy (affect

Transcranial photobiomodulation (tPBM) response variability is partly driven by biophysical characteristics such as skin tone and hair properties that attenuate photon penetration, and by lifestyle factors including sleep quality, alcohol use, and nicotine consumption that disrupt the mitochondrial and vascular pathways on which tPBM acts. To date, no validated self-report tool exists to capture these moderators systematically. To address this gap, the tPBM Variables Assessment Battery was developed and psychometrically evaluated. It integrates adapted versions of established measures (Brief P

Pregnancy provides a unique opportunity to identify women at increased risk of future chronic disease, as adverse pregnancy outcomes (APOs) such as hypertensive disorders of pregnancy, gestational diabetes mellitus, preterm birth, placental complications, and fetal growth restriction are associated with later cardiometabolic morbidity. However, postpartum care remains fragmented and limited, representing a missed opportunity for preventive intervention. Currently in pilot phase, NuViva is a novel, multidisciplinary, community-based postpartum program, providing nutrition, physical exercise, an

BACKGROUND: Acquired brain injuries (ABI) cause cognitive impairments that significantly affect occupational performance and quality of life. Despite their prevalence in the Middle East, ABIs are underexplored in Lebanon, particularly in terms of cognitive assessment and rehabilitation. This study provides the first insights from Lebanon and the Arab region into Lebanese healthcare professionals' knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) regarding cognitive impairments following ABI.
METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted in Lebanon between January and April 2025 using a self-administ

PURPOSE: The purpose of this position statement is to lay the foundation for an open-minded discourse by embracing neurodiversity in assessment and treatment of the person who stutters and to bring attention to the central premise: the person who stutters.
METHOD: A reflection on recent publications and conference presentations that discuss an unnuanced and narrow-minded ableist versus anti-ableist approach to the assessment and treatment of people who stutter. Many of those are not data-bound and lead to confusion and a perception of professional failure, certainly among junior speech-langua

Obsessive-compulsive and related disorders (OCRDs) are associated with increased risk of suicidal thoughts and behaviors (STBs), yet research characterizing suicidality in OCRDs remains limited. A major challenge in assessing STBs is the reliance on explicit self-report. This study utilized multi-method assessment to examine changes in both implicit and explicit STBs in 31 adults receiving partial/residential treatment for OCRDs. Assessments were administered at admission and weekly during treatment. Approximately three-quarters of participants reported lifetime suicidal thoughts, with 16 % re

OBJECTIVES: The Life's Simple 7 score (LS7) promotes cardiovascular health (CVH). Despite this, some with optimal LS7 develop cardiovascular disease (CVD), while others with poor CVH do not, termed the "CVH paradox." This paper explores pathways explaining this paradox.
METHODS: We examined methodological aspects: 1) misclassification bias in self-reported lifestyle factors (smoking, physical activity, diet); 2) cumulative exposure to risk factors over a lifetime, impacting the CVH paradox. Punctual risk factor assessments are suboptimal for predicting outcomes. We proposed personalized preve

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: To review the literature pertaining to the assessment and treatment of avoidant/restrictive food intake disorder (ARFID) ten years following its introduction to DSM-5.
RECENT FINDINGS: Several structured clinical interviews for assessing ARFID have been developed, each with its own strengths and limitations. There is no clear leading self-report measure for tracking treatment progress and outcome in ARFID. Medical assessment is comprised of examining anthropometrics, vitamin deficiencies, and other comorbidities. To date, several studies have reported on cognitive behaviora

Numerous conditions in the field of ophthalmology are associated with pain in or around the eye. Chronic pain associated with the eye is a common finding in the daily routine of ophthalmologists and can be associated with primary ocular or extraocular diseases as well as with other conditions. Appropriate diagnostic assessment and management of people with chronic pain requires an understanding of the condition based on the biopsychosocial model in which the interactions of biological/somatic, psychological and social factors are determining pain and suffering. Beyond the ophthalmological find

Central conducting lymphatics (CCLs) disorders represent a broad spectrum of clinical entities ranging from self-limiting traumatic leaks treated by conservative strategies, to complex lymphatic circulation abnormalities that are progressive and unresponsive to currently available treatments. Dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance lymphangiography (DCMRL) performed by intranodal injection of gadolinium-based contrast material is a recently developed technique which allows a minimally invasive evaluation of the CCL abnormalities providing a dynamic assessment of lymph flow and its pathway
