INTRODUCTION: Sleep problems are early features of Alzheimer's disease (AD). We examined domain-specific associations of subjective sleep with cognition, brain networks, and AD biomarkers in non-demented older adults.
METHODS: We studied 849 non-demented participants from the Chinese Preclinical Alzheimer's Disease Study (CPAS) cohort. Subjective sleep dimensions were assessed, along with cognition, resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging, [18F]-florbetapir positron emission tomography, and plasma AD biomarkers. Associations were examined using adjusted general linear models RESUL

BACKGROUND: Endometrioid carcinoma, originating in the endometrium glandular cells, is often detected early and treated by surgery. However, post-treatment life quality remains poorly studied, explicitly focusing on sleep quality, fatigue, and depression.
METHODS: In this cross-sectional, observational study, 147 female patients with endometrioid-type endometrial carcinoma were evaluated using standardised tools-Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), Fatigue Assessment Scale (FAS), and Beck Depression Inventory (BDI). Patients were categorised based on sleep quality and depression levels. The

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of a novel dietary supplement, including melatonin and magnesium, delivered via coffee pods on sleep quality, resting metabolic rate (RMR), and body composition in individuals with poor sleep quality disturbances. Using a double-blinded, randomized, crossover trial, we recruited 35 participants to a 4-week intervention with both supplements (1.9 mg melatonin + 200 mg elemental magnesium before sleep) and placebo conditions, considering a 7d washout period between treatments. The Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) questionnaire was app

This study aimed to describe sleep quality and explore factors associated with poor sleep quality in Thai intercity bus drivers. A cross-sectional design was employed with a sample of intercity bus drivers from 4 bus transportation companies. The Thai-PSQI was used to identify sleep quality, and the Thai Berlin Questionnaire used to assess sleep apnea risk. Data analysis included descriptive statistics and logistic regression. A total of 338 surveys were analyzed. All bus drivers were male; almost 66% of the bus drivers were defined as poor sleepers, and 18.1% were assessed as being at high ri

Exploding head syndrome is a sensory parasomnia characterized by the perception of loud noises and/or a sense of explosion in the head that occurs when transitioning to or from sleep. Despite receiving little attention from both researchers and clinicians, studies suggest that approximately 10%-15% of individuals have episodes, with significant levels of fear occurring in a subset of cases. Using two independent samples, we examine sleep and well-being variables associated with exploding head syndrome. We focused on insomnia symptoms, life stress, anxiety and depression symptoms, and sleep exp

BACKGROUND: Early stridor onset (≤ 3 years from disease onset) is a predictor of shorter survival in Multiple System Atrophy (MSA), but its role on disease progression is not yet established. In MSA, previous studies on trajectories of disease did not include stridor and REM sleep behavior disorder (RBD) as clinical variable. The aims of the study were: (1) to investigate disease progression in MSA patients with early stridor onset and with early stridor and/or RBD onset; (2) to assess cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) levels of neurofilament light chain protein (NfL) in MSA patients with early onset

OBJECTIVE: Prior studies have suggested that sleep disturbance is common in Cornelia de Lange Syndrome (CdLS); however, the nature of this sleep disturbance has not been well characterized. In this study, we evaluate the prevalence of sleep disordered breathing (SDB) and sleepiness in children and young adults with CdLS.
METHODS: Caregivers of 22 patients with CdLS completed 3 validated Pediatric Sleep Questionnaires: the Pediatric Sleep Questionnaire (PSQ), Pediatric Daytime Sleepiness Scale (PDSS), and OSA18.
RESULTS: Both measures of SDB (OSA18 and PSQ) suggest that 35-36% of these patien

BACKGROUND: Congenital central hypoventilation syndrome (CCHS) is a rare neuro-respiratory disorder associated with mutations of the PHOX2B gene. Patients with this disease experience severe hypoventilation during sleep and are consequently ventilator-dependent. However, they breathe almost normally while awake, indicating the existence of cortical mechanisms compensating for the deficient brainstem generation of automatic breathing. Current evidence indicates that the supplementary motor area plays an important role in modulating ventilation in awake normal humans. We hypothesized that the wa

INTRODUCTION: Sleep plays a crucial role in the post-burn period, yet the relationship between sleep disturbances and psychological disorders following burn remains largely unexplored. We aimed to investigate this association and elucidate the role of sleep in the development of psychological disorders after burn injury.
METHODS: Using the TriNetX database, a large, federated research network of de-identified patient data, we identified patients with burns and compared those who developed a first-time sleep disorder post-injury and those who did not. Cohorts were propensity-matched by age, ge

INTRODUCTION: Migraine compromises the quality of life (QOL) and work productivity and daily activities (WPAI). Among those with migraine, comorbidities are relatively common and diverse and are expected to elevate the disease burden. Most previous studies focused on specific psychiatric diseases or conditions and did not encompass common comorbidities. This study aimed to explore the association between various migraine comorbidities, migraine-specific quality of life (MSQ), and WPAI.
METHODS: This was a post hoc analysis of an observational study using a pre-existing database of individuals
