Unpacking Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and Mental Health in Internally Displaced Persons: A Mediation-Moderation Model of Psychological Capital and Perceived Social Support.

Internally displaced persons (IDPs) face severe physical, emotional, and social challenges due to conflict, climate change, and other crises. Ethiopia has the highest number of IDPs in Africa, primarily due to ethnic conflicts and climate-related disasters, placing them at a high risk for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and psychological distress (anxiety, emotional well-being, and depression, referred to as mental health (MH)). This study examines PTSD's direct predictive role on IDPs' (MH) in Debre Berhan Town, Ethiopia, the mediating role of psychological capital (PsyCap), and the mod

Points-Based Health Incentive Program and Subsequent Health and Well-Being in Japan: An Outcome-Wide Approach.

BACKGROUND: Evidence remains inadequate regarding the benefits of incentive programs promoting healthy activities, particularly among older adults. This longitudinal study examined the associations of participation in the points-based health incentive program with an array of subsequent health and well-being outcomes, including ones the program did not explicitly incentivize, among older adults in Japan. PARTICIPANTS AND SETTING: We used three-wave data (2020, 2021, and 2022) from Japan Gerontological Evaluation Study (n = 2504), a cohort study of functionally independent individuals aged ≥ 6

COVID-19 public health and social measures (PHSM) and early childhood developmental concerns in Scotland: an interrupted time series analysis.

BACKGROUND: COVID-19 public health and social measures (PHSM) may have affected children's development, for example by reducing their interaction with others. We examined associations between PHSM and developmental concerns among young children in Scotland. METHODS: We utilised data from routine 13-15 month and 27-30 month child health reviews, covering all children in Scotland who took part in reviews between January 2019 and August 2023 and had full developmental data. Interrupted time-series analysis assessed slope changes in the weekly proportion of children with health visitor-identified

AQP4 is upregulated in schizophrenia and Its inhibition attenuates MK-801-induced schizophrenia-like behaviors in mice.

BACKGROUND: The pathophysiology and molecular mechanisms of schizophrenia (SCZ) remain unclear, and the effective treatment resources are still limited. The goal of this study is to identify the expression of AQP4 in SCZ patients and explore whether AQP4 inhibition could ameliorate schizophrenia-like behaviors and its mechanisms. METHODS: Microarray datasets of PFC compared with healthy control were searched in the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database, and differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were analyzed with the GEO2R online tool. The Venny online tool and metascape online software were

Examining the association of neighborhood conditions on attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder symptoms in autistic youth using the child opportunity index 2.0.

BACKGROUND: While neighborhood conditions have previously been shown to have substantial effects on later occupational, educational and health outcomes, this is the first study to examine the relation between neighborhood factors and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) symptoms in children with autism and developmental delays. METHODS: Children from the CHARGE (Childhood Autism Risks from Genetics and the Environment) Study were evaluated at ages 2-5 years and then later in the ReCHARGE (follow-up) Study at ages 8-20 years (mid-childhood/adolescence). Using linear regression, we a

Experts' perspectives on the impact of visual impairment and comorbid mental disorders on functioning in essential life domains.

BACKGROUND: Visual impairment (VI) with comorbid mental disorders (MDs) are expected to have a major impact on people's daily functioning, for which tailored support is needed. However, this has been barely investigated. Therefore, this study aimed to (1) determine the impact of VI and comorbid MDs on functioning in essential life domains, (2) gain insight into best-practices that are currently used to support this target group, and (3) determine strategies to optimize care in the future. METHODS: A four-step qualitative Delphi method was used to obtain input from 31 Dutch professionals who w

Understanding personality pathology in a clinical sample of youth: study protocol for the longitudinal research project 'APOLO'.

INTRODUCTION: We propose that a dimensional, multilayered perspective is well suited to study maladaptive personality development in youth. Such a perspective can help understand pathways to personality pathology and contribute to its early detection. The research project 'APOLO' (a Dutch language acronym for Adolescents and their Personality Development: a Longitudinal Study) is designed based on McAdams' integrative three-layered model of personality development and assesses the interaction between dispositional traits, characteristic adaptations, the narrative identity and functioning. Mental health and quality of life in patients with craniofacial movement disorders: A cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND: Facial appearance and expressions influence social interaction. Hemifacial spasm (HFS), blepharospasm (BPS), and blepharospasm-oromandibular dystonia (BOD) are common forms of craniofacial movement disorders. Few studies have focused on the mental burden and quality of life (QoL) in patients with craniofacial movement disorders. Therefore, this study investigated mental health and QoL in these patients. METHODS: This cross-sectional study included 90 patients with craniofacial movement disorders (HFS, BPS, and BOD; 30 patients per group) and 30 healthy individuals without craniofa

Perception of Social Odor and Gender-Related Differences Investigated Through the Use of Transfer Entropy and Embodied Medium.

The perception of putative pheromones or social odors (PPSO) in humans is a widely debated topic because the published results seem ambiguous. Our research aimed to evaluate how cross-modal processing of PPSO and gender voice can affect the behavioral and psychophysiological states of the subject during a listening task with a bodily contact medium, and how these effects could be gender related. Before the experimental session, three embodied media, were exposed to volatilized estratetraenol (Estr), 5α-androst-16-en-3 α-ol (Andr), and Vaseline oil. The experimental session consisted in listeni

Understanding the Wellbeing Effects of a Community Music Program for People With Disabilities: A Mixed Methods, Person-Centered Study.

People with disabilities face inequalities in mental wellbeing, for which social exclusion is a contributing factor. Musical activities offer a promising but complex intervention, making impacts on a population with highly varied characteristics and needs challenging to capture. This paper reports on a mixed methods, person-centered study investigating a community music intervention for such a population. Three groups of adult service users with varied disabilities (either physical, learning, or both), took part in weekly music workshops in different locations. Music staff, housing and resourc

Psychological Consequences in Abused and Neglected School Children Exposed to Family Violence.

Although family should be the basis for the development and formation of a child's personality, violence is mostly done in the family, and remains undiscovered for a long time. The real number of abused children is much more than that displayed in the registered cases. The secrecy of the problem is an important feature of this phenomenon. Families in which abuse takes place are mostly isolated. Social isolation does not come about by chance; secrecy is usually encouraged by an abuser to control over famoly members. In most cases, social reaction to violence is late, inadequate and focused on t

The negative affectivity dimension of Type D personality is associated with in-stent neoatherosclerosis in coronary patients with percutaneous coronary intervention: An optical coherence tomography study.

OBJECTIVE: In-stent neoatherosclerosis (ISNA) is involved in the pathogenesis of in-stent restenosis and major adverse cardiac events (MACE) in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD) after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). We aimed to explore the association between Type D personality and ISNA via in vivo optical coherence tomography (OCT). METHODS: One hundred and fifty-six patients with CAD completed the Type D Scale-14 and underwent in vivo measurement of in-stent neoatherosclerosis by OCT. The Type D construct was analyzed as both the dichotomous and the dimension constructs.

Randomized controlled trial of vitamin D supplementation in children with autism spectrum disorder.

Источник пометил публикацию как отозванную

BACKGROUND: Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a frequent developmental disorder characterized by pervasive deficits in social interaction, impairment in verbal and nonverbal communication, and stereotyped patterns of interests and activities. It has been previously reported that there is vitamin D deficiency in autistic children; however, there is a lack of randomized controlled trials of vitamin D supplementation in ASD children. METHODS: This study is a double-blinded, randomized clinical trial (RCT) that was conducted on 109 children with ASD (85 boys and 24 girls; aged 3-10 years). The ai

Motivated behaviors and levels of 3α,5α-THP in the midbrain are attenuated by knocking down expression of pregnane xenobiotic receptor in the midbrain ventral tegmental area of proestrous rats.

INTRODUCTION: Progesterone (P4 ) and its product, 5α-pregnan-3α-ol-20-one (3α,5α-THP), act in the midbrain ventral tegmental area (VTA) to alter motivated behaviors, such as mating, and motor and anxiety behavior. Of interest is whether 3α,5α-THP formation requires the pregnane xenobiotic receptor (PXR), which is expressed in the midbrain of rats. AIM: The role of PXR in the midbrain for 3α,5α-THP formation, which precedes modulation of motivated behaviors, was investigated. METHODS: Rats had estrous cycle phase determined and were assessed when they were in diestrus or proestrus. Diestrous

Accessibility of sports facilities for persons with reduced mobility and assessment of their motivation for practice.

This study aims to create awareness, both within the scientific community and among providers of sports facilities, for individuals with impaired or reduced mobility, promoting the development of technical solutions that allow greater autonomy and social integration of people with disabilities. The purpose of this work is, on the one hand, to evaluate the accessibility of sports facilities for people with reduced mobility and, on the other hand, to investigate why this user group has such low rates of participation in sporting activities. Firstly, using the Portuguese norms and legislation tra
