The RNA-dependent RNA polymerase (RdRp) in viruses of the family Flaviviridae plays an important role in the viral replication process and in the forming of a replicase complex. Our goal was to determine the feasibility of video-assisted cardioscopic closure of atrial septal defect (ASD) without cardiopulmonary bypass using a staple catheter device and guiding catheter in an experimental setting. PURPOSE: To evaluate the ability of power Doppler ultrasonography to depict changes in renal perfusion after pharmacologic manipulations.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Six domestic swine were intubated and anesthetized. The right renal artery was catheterized for injection of epinephrine (100 micrograms) and papaverine (2 mg/kg). Intraarterial blood pressure, heart rate, and oxygen saturation were measured continuously. Longitudinal images of the kidney were obtained, and the power Doppler color map was analyzed subjectively and by computer at baseline and at the time of maximum drug effect.

A prospective cohort study was designed to describe the patterns and to determine the factors associated with the risk of rectal prolapse in a commercial swine herd in California, USA. Thirty (1.0 per cent) of 2862 pigs prolapsed between 12 and 28 weeks of age with the peak incidence occurring in 14- to 16-week-old pigs. Growth and cytopathogenicity of pigeon herpes encephalomyelitis virus (PHEV) in avian and mammalian cell cultures were investigated. The virus was cytopathogenic to all avian primary cell cultures tested and produced large syncytia with intranuclear inclusions. Viral antigen was detected in the nuclei of infected cells 6 hr postinoculation. Infective virus, however, was obtained 8 hr post-inoculation.
