Fifty-five breast cancer patients underwent high-resolution computed tomography (HRCT) of the lungs before, 8-12 weeks, 6, 9 and 12 months after adjuvant radiotherapy. During the follow-up time, 17 of them (30%) were found to develop minimal parenchymal alterations in the irradiated lung volume by HRCT evidence. The purpose of this study was to define the role of three-dimensional (3D) computed tomography (CT) in the head and neck diseases with bony abnormalities. Thirty-two patients were examined with a low dose radiation technique. Three-dimensional CT clearly delineated bony lesions in 27 of 32 patients. Radiographs and computed tomography (CT) scans of the chest were reviewed for 10 patients with pathologically proven Wegener's granulomatosis. A new method for measuring tibial torsion is described which can be applied to both ultrasound (US) and computed tomography (CT). The method has been validated in dry tibiae by comparison with direct measurements and with Jend's established CT method. In clinical practice a good statistical level of agreement has been demonstrated between the values obtained from US and CT scans. Both compared well with values obtained using Jend's CT technique. The use of US avoids exposure to radiation and is therefore suited to studying young subjects and controls and making repeat measurements.

The technique of radiofrequency neurolysis guided by computed tomography for the treatment of glossopharyngeal neuralgia is described. This technique has the advantage of being performed in a neutral head position, affording excellent visualization of the jugular foramen, and also of simulating radiographically the precise trajectory of the electrode. This procedure is of particular value in treating patients with neoplastic disease and those in whom the outlines of the jugular foramen are poorly visualized on fluoroscopy or plain radiography.

Somato-sensory evoked potentials (SSEP) were found to be pathological mostly in the lower extremities in 26 out of 45 children suffering from so called idiopathic scoliosis. High resolution computed tomography of the lungs was performed in three patients with the yellow nail syndrome to detect bronchiectasis. Standard CT was performed in a fourth patient. Evidence of bronchiectasis with bronchial wall thickening and bronchial dilatation was observed in all four patients. High resolution CT is a non-invasive method for detecting and assessing the extent of airway disease in the yellow nail syndrome.
