Safety of concomitant use of oral anticoagulants and antidiabetic drugs: a systematic review of observational studies.

INTRODUCTION: We systematically reviewed observational studies assessing the safety of concomitant use of oral anticoagulants (OACs) and antidiabetic drugs (ADs). METHODS: We systematically searched MEDLINE/PubMed and EMBASE up to 10/2024 for cohort, case-control, and case-only studies on concomitant use of OACs and ADs and the risk of adverse outcomes (hypoglycemia, bleeding). Risk of bias was assessed using the Risk Of Bias In Non-randomized Studies of Interventions (ROBINS-I) tool. RESULTS: We identified five cohort studies and two self-controlled case-series (n = 1,370,036). Concomitant

A Systematic Review of Factor XI/XIa Inhibitors Versus Direct Oral Anticoagulants in Patients with Atrial Fibrillation.

BackgroundAtrial fibrillation (AF) is a leading cause of stroke, necessitating effective anticoagulation. While direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) have improved stroke prevention, bleeding risks remain a concern. Factor XI/XIa inhibitors, targeting the intrinsic coagulation pathway, offer potential for reduced bleeding, although questions remain regarding their efficacy. This systematic review evaluates the efficacy and safety of Factor XI/XIa inhibitors compared to DOACs in AF patients.MethodsWe conducted a systematic review of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) comparing Factor XI/XIa inhib

Effect of oral anticoagulant therapy on adverse outcomes in patients with atrial fibrillation after intracranial hemorrhage.

BACKGROUND: The optimal management of oral anticoagulant (OAC) therapy in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) after intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) remains uncertain. Although recent randomized controlled trials (RCTs) have investigated this clinical dilemma, findings have been inconclusive. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of restarting OACs in patients with AF after ICH, we conducted a meta-analysis of RCTs. METHODS: We conducted a literature search in PubMed, Embase, and the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, identifying eligible RCTs from inception to March 2

Antiplatelet therapy in patients with chronic coronary syndrome requiring oral anticoagulation: An updated meta-analysis of randomized trials.

BACKGROUND: Patients with chronic coronary syndrome (CCS) often require long-term oral anticoagulation (OAC), most commonly for atrial fibrillation (AF). Evidence on the optimal antithrombotic strategy in this setting remains inconclusive, prompting this updated meta-analysis of randomized trials comparing OAC plus a single antiplatelet therapy (SAPT) with OAC monotherapy. METHODS: We systematically searched PubMed/MEDLINE, SciELO, Latindex, LILACS, the Cochrane Library, and ClinicalTrials.gov up to November 12, 2025. The primary efficacy endpoint was all-cause death, while secondary efficacy

Topical and systemic effects of medical ozone therapy on epidural fibrosis: Experimental research.

INTRODUCTION: Epidural fibrosis (EF) causes adhesions in the epidural distance, resulting in chronic low back and leg pain symptoms during the postoperative period. Currently, ozone is used for treating lumbar disk herniation and low back pain. However, its effect on epidural fibrosis is largely unknown. MATERIAL AND METHODS: This rodent study examined the histopathological and biochemical effects of ozone therapy on epidural fibrosis. Forty-seven male Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into four groups, as follows: Control Group (CG) (n = 12): Laminectomy was performed, and no substance was ap

Sarcoptic mange in cattle: Effects of treatment with eprinomectin topical solution on performance, behavior changes, and adrenal and systemic responses to ACTH challenge.

Bovine sarcoptic mange can cause significant pruritus and skin disease which compromise the health and welfare of the animals, impairs animal productivity and is furthermore of zoonotic concern. This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of efficacious treatment of sarcoptic mange on performance and on animal welfare using behavioral indicators and adrenal reactivity testing. Sixteen young cattle with induced sarcoptic mange were allocated by restricted randomization based on body weight to an untreated group (control) or a treated group (eprinomectin 5 mg/mL topical solution [EPRINEX® P

Nutritional care using oral nutritional supplements: 22 questions every clinician Asks-Answered by global experts in a Delphi consensus study.

BACKGROUND/AIMS: Malnutrition is a common clinical problem causing poor outcomes, including longer hospital stays, complications, functional decline, and mortality. Oral nutritional supplements (ONS) are a key component of medical nutrition therapy for patients who cannot meet their nutritional needs through diet alone. Despite their proven effectiveness, ONS use in practice remains inconsistent due to the lack of comprehensive, practice-based, and internationally validated guidelines. In 2023, the Turkish Clinical Enteral and Parenteral Nutrition Society (KEPAN) developed a national consensus

Clinical evidence and rationale of topical nifedipine and lidocaine ointment in the treatment of anal fissure and hemorrhoidal disease.

INTRODUCTION: Anorectal conditions such as hemorrhoidal disease and anal fissure are frequently painful and debilitating. Pain after hemorrhoidectomy is also common and distressing. These conditions are at least initially managed conservatively. An ointment formulation containing the calcium channel blocker nifedipine and the local anesthetic lidocaine has an established role in the treatment of rectal conditions, particularly conditions associated with anal sphincter hypertonia such as hemorrhoidal disease and anal fissure. This review aimed to compile the evidence for the use of nifedipine 0

Prevalence of Common Contact Allergens in Topical Diaper Preparations for Infants.

In cases of persistent perineal dermatitis (PD), allergic contact dermatitis should be considered and common potential allergens avoided in topical diaper preparations. Our study reviewed the best-selling diaper preparations on a popular website to identify the number and types of allergens in each product, based on the 2018 Pediatric Baseline Patch Test Series and North American Contact Dermatitis Group-70. Of the products reviewed, 21/25 (84%) percent contained one or more potential allergens. Additionally, we provide a list of products that do not have ingredients contained on either potent

Secular Trends in Outcomes and Impact of Novel Oral Anticoagulants in Atrial Fibrillation-Related Acute Ischemic Stroke.

BACKGROUND: Novel oral anticoagulants (NOACs) are currently recommended for the secondary prevention of stroke in patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIS) accompanied by atrial fibrillation (AF). However, the impact of NOACs on clinical outcomes in real-world practice remains ambiguous. This study analyzes the trend of clinical events in patients with AF-related AIS and determines how much the introduction of NOACs has mediated this trend. METHODS: We identified patients with AIS and AF between January 2011 and December 2019 using a multicenter stroke registry. Annual rates of NOAC prescript

Optimizing anticoagulation therapy for in-hospital patients on direct oral anticoagulants: a single-centre modified Delphi study.

AIMS: The management of patients treated with direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) during hospitalization is a common challenge in clinical practice. Although bridging is generally not recommended, too often DOACs are switched to parenteral therapy with low molecular weight heparins. Our objectives were to update a local guideline for perioperative DOAC management and to develop a guideline for the anticoagulation management in non-surgical patients regarding temporary DOAC discontinuation. METHODS: We executed a two-step modified Delphi study in a 1000-bed university hospital in Belgium. The D

Nonsevere hypertensive disorders of pregnancy and oral antihypertensive medications: an argument against use.

Hypertensive disorders of pregnancy, including gestational hypertension and preeclampsia, affect approximately 13% of all pregnancies and are a major cause of maternal and neonatal morbidity and mortality worldwide. Although the treatment of preeclampsia with severe features has been well established on the basis of randomized controlled data, international society guidelines vary on the treatment of gestational hypertension and preeclampsia without severe features. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists recommends against the use of antihypertensive agents for nonsevere hyper
