We carried out a retrospective study to investigate epidemiological and clinical aspects of patient management in a hospital environment. We studied 90 cases of non-tuberculous bacterial pleuropneumopathies in children, observed over a 5-year period, from January 1 1991 to December 31 1995, at the Pediatric Medical Unit of Yopougon University Hospital. OBJECTIVE: To study performance of DSM-III-R, ICD-10 and CAMDEX diagnoses of delirium as predictors of improvement in mental state in survivors, and to develop a brief rating scale which will predict reversibility of cognitive dysfunction.

INTRODUCTION: Acute epiglottitis (AE) continues to cause life-threatening airway obstruction in children. The aim of this retrospective study was to evaluate deficiencies in the management of AE, to clarify the role of airway endoscopy, and to establish the cause of death in this disease.

To investigate the factors influencing whether or not couples seek genetic counselling, the parents of 37 children with a major congenital anomaly were interviewed at home. All the children had been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Department of Paediatric Surgery. BACKGROUND: Although typhoid fever incidence decreased in the 1960s and 1970s in New York City and elsewhere, it did not disappear. In this article, trends associated with various modes of transmission of Salmonella typhi in New York City patients are described.
METHODS: Typhoid fever surveillance reports from 1980 to 1990 were reviewed for clinical, demographic, and epidemiologic characteristics. Cases of typhoid fever were classified as travel related or domestically acquired.

Abruptio placentae rarely produces severe maternal complications while the fetus is alive in utero. The advent of fetal death (grade III) indicates a severe form of abruptio placentae and a real risk that an overt coagulopathy might develop (grade IIIB).
