High-protein diets may be linked to gut inflammation due to increased production of hydrogen sulfide (H2S), a potential toxin, as an end product of microbial fermentation in the colon by sulfidogenic sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB). We hypothesized that dietary content of sulfur-containing amino acids (SAA) leads to variation in the relative abundances of intestinal SRB, which include Desulfovibrio and Bilophila taxa. To test this hypothesis we performed a pilot crossover study in four healthy volunteers, who consumed two interventional diets for 10-14 days, containing high or low SAA content.

BACKGROUND: Tenofovir alafenamide (TAF), a prodrug of the nucleotide analogue tenofovir (TFV), is an antiretroviral (ARV) agent approved either as a complete regimen [elvitegravir/cobicistat/emtricitabine (F)/TAF, rilpivirine/F/TAF, bictegravir/F/TAF], or for use with other ARVs (F/TAF), for treatment of HIV. TAF is a substrate of P-glycoprotein (P-gp) and breast cancer resistance protein (BCRP) transporters. Disposition of TAF may be altered by comedications that can inhibit or induce P-gp or BCRP transporters. The effects of ARVs on the pharmacokinetics of TAF were evaluated in 3 studies.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study is to characterize intraday and interday variation in central corneal thickness (CCT) in healthy and glaucomatous subjects.
METHODS: In this prospective cohort study, 40 healthy subjects and 42 subjects with primary open-angle glaucoma underwent CCT measurements by ultrasonic pachymetry on 5 days over 1 year: first at baseline, then at 1 week and 1, 6, and 12 months after baseline.
