Comparison Between Browser- and App-Based Versions of a Program for Self-Management of Mild to Moderate Depression: Log Data Analysis of a Convenience Sample.

BACKGROUND: Internet-based cognitive behavioral therapy (iCBT) for the treatment of depression has proven to be an effective and accessible option. However, iCBTs tend to have low adherence rates, which may negatively impact their effectiveness. One such iCBT program is the browser-based, proven-effective iFightDepression (iFD) tool. An app-based version of the iFD tool is the iFD app, which was developed to improve usability with a smartphone. The iFD app provides enhanced usability and a more optimized user experience on mobile devices. Additionally, it offers more comfortable interaction wi

Costs and Outcomes of a Therapist-Guided Internet-Delivered Cognitive Behavioral Therapy: Multicenter Observational Study.

BACKGROUND: Therapist-guided internet-delivered cognitive behavioral therapy (iCBT) has demonstrated efficacy and potential cost-effectiveness in treating depression, anxiety, and panic disorder in randomized controlled trials (RCTs). However, evidence of its outcomes and costs in routine care settings on a national level remains limited. OBJECTIVE: We aimed to assess the program costs and outcomes of therapist-guided iCBT for depression, social anxiety, and panic disorder posttreatment (T2) and at 6-month follow-up (T3) in a broad context, in addition to exploring how the program's costs and

Harnessing Big Heterogeneous Data to Evaluate the Potential Impact of HIV Responses Among Key Populations in Sub-Saharan Africa: Protocol for the Boloka Data Repository Initiative.

BACKGROUND: In South Africa, there is no centralized HIV surveillance system where key populations (KPs) data, including gay men and other men who have sex with men, female sex workers, transgender persons, people who use drugs, and incarcerated persons, are stored in South Africa despite being on higher risk of HIV acquisition and transmission than the general population. Data on KPs are being collected on a smaller scale by numerous stakeholders and managed in silos. There exists an opportunity to harness a variety of data, such as empirical, contextual, observational, and programmatic data,

Privacy, Security, and Legal Issues in the Health Cloud: Structured Review for Taxonomy Development.

BACKGROUND: Privacy in our digital world is a very complicated topic, especially when meeting cloud computing technological achievements with its multidimensional context. Here, privacy is an extended concept that is sometimes referred to as legal, philosophical, or even technical. Consequently, there is a need to harmonize it with other aspects in health care in order to provide a new ecosystem. This new ecosystem can lead to a paradigm shift involving the reconstruction and redesign of some of the most important and essential requirements like privacy concepts, legal issues, and security ser

Using Intervention Mapping and Behavior Change Techniques to Develop a Digital Intervention for Self-Management in Stroke: Development Study.

BACKGROUND: Digital therapeutics, such as interventions provided via smartphones or the internet, have been proposed as promising solutions to support self-management in persons with chronic conditions. However, the evidence supporting self-management interventions through technology in stroke is scarce, and the intervention development processes are often not well described, creating challenges in explaining why and how the intervention would work. OBJECTIVE: This study describes a specific use case of using intervention mapping (IM) and the taxonomy of behavior change techniques (BCTs) in d

Antipsychotic dose reduction and discontinuation versus maintenance treatment in people with schizophrenia and other recurrent psychotic disorders in England (the RADAR trial): an open, parallel-group, randomised controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Maintenance antipsychotic medication is recommended for people with schizophrenia or recurrent psychosis, but the adverse effects are burdensome, and evidence on long-term outcomes is sparse. We aimed to assess the benefits and harms of a gradual process of antipsychotic reduction compared with maintenance treatment. Our hypothesis was that antipsychotic reduction would improve social functioning with a short-term increase in relapse. METHODS: RADAR was an open, parallel-group, randomised trial done in 19 National Health Service Trusts in England. Participants were aged 18 years a

Using the Online Psychotherapy Tool to Address Mental Health Problems in the Context of the COVID-19 Pandemic: Protocol for an Electronically Delivered Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Program.

BACKGROUND: The considerable rise of mental health challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic has had detrimental effects on the public health sector and economy. To meet the overwhelming and growing demand for mental health care, innovative approaches must be employed to significantly expand mental health care delivery capacity. Although it is not feasible to increase the number of mental health care providers or hours they work in the short term, improving their time efficiency may be a viable solution. Virtually and digitally delivering psychotherapy, which has been shown to be efficient and c

Harnessing the Rheological Properties of Liquid Metals To Shape Soft Electronic Conductors for Wearable Applications.

Emerging applications of the Internet of Things in healthcare, wellness, and gaming require continuous monitoring of the body and its environment, fueling the need for wearable devices able to maintain intimate, reliable, and unobtrusive contact with the human body. This translates in the necessity to develop soft and deformable electronics that match the body's mechanics and dynamics. In recent years, various strategies have been proposed to form stretchable circuits and more specifically elastic electrical conductors embedded in elastomeric substrate using either geometrical structuring of s

Predicting Sexual Behaviors Among Homeless Young Adults: Ecological Momentary Assessment Study.

BACKGROUND: Despite proven benefits through the secondary prevention of cardiovascular disease (CVD) and reduction of mortality, cardiac rehabilitation (CR) remains underutilized in cardiac patients. Underserved populations most affected by CVD including rural residents, low socioeconomic status patients, and racial/ethnic minorities have the lowest participation rates due to access barriers. Internet-and mobile-based lifestyle interventions have emerged as potential modalities to complement and increase accessibility to CR. An outpatient CR program using virtual world technology may provide a

Intraductal carcinoma of the prostate: interobserver reproducibility survey of 39 urologic pathologists.

The diagnosis of intraductal carcinoma (IDC) of the prostate remains subjective because 3 sets of diagnostic criteria are in use. An internet survey was compiled from 38 photomicrographs showing duct proliferations: 14 signed out as high-grade prostatic intraepithelial neoplasia (HGPIN), 17 IDC, and 7 invasive cribriform/ductal carcinoma. Each image was assessed for the presence of 9 histologic criteria ascribed to IDC. Thirty-nine respondents were asked to rate images as (1) benign/reactive, (2) HGPIN, (3) borderline between HGPIN and IDC, (4) IDC, or (5) invasive cribriform/ductal carcinoma.

The Sexunzipped trial: young people's views of participating in an online randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Incidence of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) among young people in the United Kingdom is increasing. The Internet can be a suitable medium for delivery of sexual health information and sexual health promotion, given its high usage among young people, its potential for creating a sense of anonymity, and ease of access. Online randomized controlled trials (RCTs) are increasingly being used to evaluate online interventions, but while there are many advantages to online methodologies, they can be associated with a number of problems, including poor engagement with online interve
