Each modality has individual strengths and limitations, which usually vary depending on the specific clinical situation. The intrabiliary rupture of hydatid cyst of the liver is a severe and relatively frequent complication. In this study six similar cases are presented. 4 of the cases had hydatid cyst surgery before the admission. The obstructive jaundice, cholangitis and unclosed bile fistula are the most frequent clinical findings. Ultrasound is very useful for the diagnosis. Alcoholic liver disease evolves from fatty change through alcoholic hepatitis to alcoholic cirrhosis. Its development is associated with an excess mortality both in relation to the presence of liver disease and to other complications of alcohol abuse. We report for the first time treatment of hydatid cyst of the liver laparoscopically. The patient is a 27-year-old man who presented to our hospital with a 6-week history of recurrent right-upper-quadrant pain with abdominal ultrasound findings compatible with hydatid cyst of the liver. An atypical case of cystic echinococcosis of the liver is reported. During a routine examination of a 75-year-old man an asymptomatic hepatic lesion was found. US, CT and MRI showed a solid, avascular, non-invasively growing lesion. Echinococcus serology was negative. Histological samples taken by biopsy and after cyst extirpation confirmed the diagnosis of an old, scarred Echinococcus cyst. Five cases of primary cystic tumors of the intrahepatic bile duct are documented over a 5-yr period. Clinically, two cases had recurrent episodes and one had a first attack of jaundice, fever, and pain in the upper abdomen; one complained of abdominal fullness and one was asymptomatic. The human can serve as an accidental intermediate host to Echinococcus granulosus, a parasite that targets dogs as its definitive hosts. We present the case of a 27-year-old man with liver hydatidosis, who underwent heart transplantation because of ischemic cardiomyopathy. The immunosuppressor treatment had no effect on the size of the cysts, which were removed surgically 14 months after heart transplantation; good results persist after 3 years of follow-up.
