This study assessed counselors' knowledge of the adoption of evidence-based tobacco cessation medications (TCMs)--varenicline, bupropion, and five nicotine replacement therapies (NRTs)--and predictors of adoption in diverse substance abuse treatment settings. We observed oat-cell lung carcinoma in a man who presented with diabetes insipidus. The chest radiograph showed a suspect nodule within a context of major nicotine addiction. Histopathological examination of the transbronchial biopsy confirmed the diagnosis of oat-cell carcinoma. Brain CT revealed metastasis to the pituitary gland and the pituitary stalk. We examined the relationship of sleep disturbance and demographic, mental health, drug use and other factors among 225 methadone-maintained individuals. The cohort was 78% Caucasian and 54% male with a mean age of 41 years. Sleep disturbance was measured using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) with a score >5 indicating poor global sleep quality. Eighty-four percent of subjects had PSQI scores of six or higher. Successful phentermine and racemic fenfluramine treatment of 150 obese patients led to the use of this therapy in 12 alcoholic patients. A conjugate of alpha-bungarotoxin with horseradish peroxidase was used to visualize alpha-bungarotoxin binding sites at the fine structural level in isolated axonal membrane vesicles from lobster walking leg nerve. IMPORTANCE: Cytisinicline (cytisine) is a plant-based alkaloid that, like varenicline, binds selectively to α4β2 nicotinic acetylcholine receptors, which mediate nicotine dependence.
