During the last 3 years, we have applied the nasalis myocutaneous island flap for reconstruction of nasal defects following excision of skin basal cell carcinoma and melanoma in 19 patients. By refinements with Z plasty, early dermabrasion, and placement of a bolster, we could minimize the trapdoor deformity, obvious scars, and blunting of the alar groove. Seventy-two infants were treated with nasal continuous positive airway pressure for one day to five weeks, and nasal deformities developed in none. One hundred thirty-six infants were treated with nasotracheal tubes and eight (6%) were found to have nasal deformities. BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Although neonates receiving Non-Invasive Ventilation (NIV) for respiratory support are at risk for nasal pressure injuries, efforts to standardize reporting are limited. A scoping review was conducted to identify the reporting systems used for describing these injuries.
