T-type calcium channel blockers: a review of recent advances (2018-2025).

INTRODUCTION: T-type calcium channels are critical for a number of physiological and pathophysiological processes and are potential molecular targets for antiepileptics, analgesics, and drugs that alleviate essential tremor. There have been extensive efforts in identifying and developing novel small organic compounds that block the activities of T-type calcium channels. This is reflected in a number of patent applications and issued patents that cover such molecules. AREAS COVERED: Literature and patent databases (PubMed, Scopus, WoS, USPTO, EPO, SciFinder, Lens, Patentscope, Google Patents,

Perceptions of reproductive health among indigenous communities in Africa: A systematic review of cultural beliefs, practices, and health outcomes.

Diverse conceptualisation of reproductive health is a major public health problem in Africa, especially among indigenous communities were cultural beliefs shape health behaviours and outcomes. This review, following the PRISMA framework, looked at how indigenous African people understand reproductive health by examining studies published from 2015 to 2025. A thorough search was done in PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, CINAHL, and African Journals Online, resulting in 30 studies being identified for this study. An analysis of these showed that ideas about fertility, pregnancy, and contraception

New Perspectives on the Use of Resveratrol in the Treatment of Metabolic and Estrogen-Dependent Conditions Through Hormonal Modulation and Anti-Inflammatory Effects.

Estrogen-dependent conditions, such as endometriosis, adenomyosis, lipedema, polycystic ovary syndrome, and breast cancer, are intimately involved with hormonal changes related to estrogen and their receptors. These conditions can be expressed mainly during hormonal changes such as pregnancy, puberty, and menopause. They are associated with alterations in estrogen function and inflammatory mechanisms, leading to significant discomfort and a marked decrease in self-esteem in women. Resveratrol has been studied in the treatment of inflammatory diseases like obesity, metabolic syndrome, and endom

Investigational agents for pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors: what clinical progress have we seen in the last 5 years?

INTRODUCTION: Pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (pNETs), a group of endocrine tumors that arise in the pancreas from the hormonal cells of the islets of Langerhans, are among the most common gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine tumors. The incidence of pNETs has increased in recent years to about 1.5 per 100,000 population and prognosis correlates with histologic grade. This review aims to provide an overview of the newly approved or currently developing drugs over the past five years that have shown a significant improvement in prognosis for patients affected by this rare disease. Artificial Intelligence in the Diagnosis, Treatment, and Prognosis of Hypopharyngeal Carcinoma: A Scoping Review.

Hypopharyngeal carcinoma (HPC) has one of the poorest prognoses among all types of head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC). Artificial intelligence (AI) is a scientific field that is in the spotlight, especially in the last decade, and AI has also been widely used in the research field of HPC. This scoping review aimed to describe the improvement of HPC clinical cares brought by AI. Literatures utilizing AI and machine learning in HPC were searched in PubMed, EMBASE, and Web of Science, and 116 articles from 1987 to 2024 were retrieved. After removing duplicate and irrelevant articles, 8

Efficacy of Dose Escalation of Ustekinumab in Inflammatory Bowel Disease: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

BACKGROUND: Ustekinumab is an effective drug in the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), but inadequate response or loss of response is reported in several patients. Dose escalation by intravenous reinduction or interval shortening may be a suitable option to recapture response. We undertook a systematic review and meta-analysis to assess the efficacy of dose escalation in IBD patients receiving ustekinumab. METHODS: A systematic literature search was conducted on PubMed, Embase, Clinicaltrails.gov, and Cochrane from inception to June 1, 2024. We conducted a proportional meta-analys

Does the duration of empiric antibiotic treatment influence NEC incidence and severity relative to placental pathology?

Necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) remains a leading cause of mortality in preterm infants. Studies show that exposure to chorioamnionitis is associated with increased rate of NEC. The influence of the early antibiotic exposure provides contrasting findings, with a few studies demonstrating an increased risk of NEC with prenatal and postnatal antibiotic treatment, and others showing a decreased NEC risk. Far fewer reports delineate the impact of the duration of early antibiotics or the potential confounding of antibiotics by placental pathology on incidence of NEC. The provision of antibiotics fo

Bioactive compounds and dietary patterns in Alzheimer's disease.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder that primarily affects the elderly, leading to severe cognitive decline and loss of autonomy. The accumulation of amyloid-β peptides and tau proteins in the brain is considered the central pathogenic mechanism, which results in neuronal dysfunction and cell death. Various metabolic disruptions, such as chronic oxidative stress and inflammatory processes, further exacerbate the progression of AD. This review, based on literature from PubMed, SciELO, MDPI, and ScienceDirect, evaluates the role of bioactive compounds and dietary

Cellular therapy for the peripheral arterial disease treatment: Protocol for a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Cellular therapy is a promising treatment option for Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD). Different cell types can be used to regenerate and repair tissues affected by PAD. Many studies have proposed the use of stem cells, such as mesenchymal stem cells, or even mononuclear cells isolated from peripheral blood or bone marrow, to treat PAD. This paper reports a protocol of systematic review and meta-analysis that aims to identify the effects of stem cell treatment in patients with peripheral arterial disease. The search will be conducted in the following database: PubMed/MEDLINE, Clinicaltrial.go
