This work consists of two parts. In the first part, the doses in the human lung per unit exposure to thoron progeny, the dose conversion factor (DCF), was calculated. Dependence of the DCF on various environmental and subject-related parameters was investigated. The model used in these calculations was based on ICRP 66 recommendations. In the second part, the human lungs were considered as the source of beta and gamma radiation which target the other organs of the human body. At a high-energy, high-intensity proton accelerator facility, the accelerator components inside the beam-line tunnel and the concrete wall of the tunnel are activated due to beam loss during operation. Squamous cell carcinoma of the tongue is rare in children and previously unreported as a second malignancy after survival of acute leukemia. Usual etiologic associations such as smoking and alcohol use are not commonly seen in this population, and exposure to immunosuppressive and antineoplastic agents including radiation therapy may contribute to the occurrence of these tumors. Here we discuss how skin exposure to sunlight may suppress liver inflammation and the severity of NAFLD. The article reports on two female patients with cancer of the breast who had primarily not been treated by surgery or exposure to radiation, but only with cytostatics. Complete remission of the tumour occurred in both patients in the course of several years of treatment. These two examples show that in patients with cancer of the breast in stages which appear refractory and hopeless, a treatment course with cytostatics should be attempted.
