OBJECTIVE: The goal of endovenous stenting is to relieve venous obstruction and reduce peripheral venous hypertension by using large caliber venous stents in the presence of adequate venous inflow and outflow for the stented conduit. The aim of this report is to describe the technical reasons and outcomes for reinterventions in a subset of patients who had a history of iliac vein stenting and were now referred to us at a specialty venous clinic for further care.
METHODS: From January 2016 to December 2021, records of all patients who were referred to us with a history of iliac vein stenting p

Double-J ureteral stents are usually placed after various urological procedures. The dislodgement of their distal ringlet is a rare complication, whose retrieval is arduous in younger children, due to the small ureteral caliber. We propose our innovative endoscopic approach to recover the dislodged JJ stent. Under 8-9.8 Ch cystoscopy, the ureteral meatus is gently cannulated with a 00.18″ guidewire, then a balloon catheter Passeo 18 3-4 mm (Biotronik, Lake Oswego, OR, USA) is coaxially inserted. A pneumatic dilatation of the vesical-ureteral junction is performed up to 8 atmospheres for 5 minu

Bare metal stent infections complicating peripheral endovascular stenting are rare but can be associated with devastating morbidities. The current standard of care necessitates explantation and extra-anatomical bypass of the affected limb. We report the case of a patient presenting with a right groin abscess with draining sinuses secondary to an infected common femoral and right external iliac artery bare metal stent. In addition, a portion of the stent was explanted into the subcutaneous tissues instead of where it was placed intravascularly one year prior. The patient was not an ideal candid

PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to assess safety and efficacy of vertebral body stenting (VBS) by analyzing (1) radiographic outcome, (2) clinical outcome, and (3) perioperative complications in patients with vertebral compression fractures treated with VBS at minimum 6-month follow-up.
METHODS: In this retrospective cohort study, 78 patients (61 ± 14 [21-90] years; 67% female) who have received a vertebral body stent due to a traumatic, osteoporotic or metastatic thoracolumbar compression fracture at our hospital between 2012 and 2020 were included. Median follow-up was 0.9 years with a m

BACKGROUND: Endoscopic stenting (ES) is a widely known method for palliative dysphagia treatment in esophageal strictures. Esophageal cancer is often associated with advanced malnutrition, which may increase the risk of complications of the procedure. The aim of this study was to evaluate complication rates and the impact of nutritional status on the outcomes of ES.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: A single-center retrospective study was conducted at Copernicus Hospital in Gdańsk, Poland. Adult patients who underwent endoscopic stenting between February 2014 and December 2018 were included. The influenc

In this study, we explored the incidence of double J (JJ) contamination of patients who underwent an endourological procedure for urinary stones and ureteral stenosis. We developed a prospective study between January 2019 and December 2021. Ninety-seven patients, 54 male and 43 female, were enrolled. Urine culture was taken during four steps: before stent insertion, a sample from selective renal pelvis catheterization, a sample two days after the JJ insertion and finally, after the stent removal procedure. At the time of the stent removal, 1 cm of proximal and distal ends were cut off and plac

BACKGROUND: The treatment of refractory hypopharyngeal corrosive strictures remains challenging nowadays.
OBJECTIVES: To introduce a designed ladder-shaped stent for the treatment of refractory hypopharyngeal corrosive strictures.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: Patients with refractory hypopharyngeal corrosive strictures treated in our hospital between 2018 to 2022 were recruited in this study. All the patients had a dysphasia score of 4 and four patients had a tracheostomy preoperatively. A designed ladder-shaped stent was placed in the hypopharyngeal area after laser treatment to maintain the openi

BACKGROUND: Tracheobronchomalacia (TBM) and airway stenosis are recognized etiologies of airway obstruction among children. Their management is often challenging, requiring multiple interventions and prolonged respiratory support with associated long-term morbidity. Metallic or silicone stents have been used with mixed success and high complication rates. More recently biodegradable Ella stents (BES) provided an attractive interventional option.
OBJECTIVES: We report our experience in the treatment of TBM and vascular airway compression using BES. We deliberately downsized them to minimize in

The treatment strategy for iatrogenic intracranial vasospasm has not been established. We reported a rare case of stent-retriever use for the treatment of iatrogenic vasospasm after mechanical thrombectomy. The patient presented acute ischemic stroke due to the occlusion of the left middle cerebral artery (MCA). The patient underwent a successfully mechanical thrombectomy, however, severe stenosis was visualized in MCA, which was considered to be an iatrogenic mechanical vasospasm. This vasospasm was successfully treated with the Solitaire stent device, and the patient recovered from ischemic

The feasibility of carotid artery stenting (CAS) for carotid stenosis with severely calcified plaque remains controversial. Understanding the features associated with CAS difficulty in lesions with severe calcification is crucial. Calcified nodules, one of the morphological patterns of calcified plaques, have not been assessed for their association with the feasibility of CAS, even though they are associated with failure of percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) in coronary arteries. We present a rare case of carotid stenosis with calcified nodules in whom CAS was unsuccessful and who was su

OBJECTIVES: We aimed to elucidate the perioperative and short-term clinical outcomes of the Najuta thoracic stent graft system with fenestrations for supra-aortic vessels.
METHODS: We retrospectively investigated the perioperative and short-term clinical outcomes of 20 patients treated for arch or distal arch aneurysms using the Najuta thoracic stent graft system during the period from May 2019 to February 2023.
RESULTS: The technical success rate of the Najuta thoracic stent graft system was 95%. Of the 20 patients, 17 patients (85.0%) underwent concomitant extra-anatomical supra-aortic byp

Ascaris lumbricoides causes one of the most common soil-transmitted helminthiases globally. The worms mostly infect the human small intestine and elicit negligible or nonspecific symptoms, but there are reports of extraintestinal ectopic ascariasis. We describe a rare case of biliary ascariasis mistaken for biliary stent in a 72-year-old female patient with a history of liver resection. She visited our outpatient clinic complaining of right upper quadrant pain and fever for the past week. She had previously undergone left lateral sectionectomy for recurrent biliary and intrahepatic duct stones

BACKGROUND/AIM: Pseudoaneurysm rupture (PR) after subtotal stomach-preserving pancreaticoduodenectomy (SSPPD) is a potentially fatal complication.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: This study included 122 patients who underwent SSPPD at the Matsuyama Red Cross Hospital between January 2016 and December 2021.
RESULTS: PR occurred in five patients (4.1%) after SSPPD. Preoperative diagnoses were cancers of the pancreatic head, distal bile duct, and gallbladder. All patients had postoperative Grade B or C pancreatic fistulas. PR occurred on postoperative days 8, 13, 20, 45, and 46. Bleeding sites were at th
