Urodynamic examinations and fluorescent histochemical studies suggest that patients with bladder neck obstruction can be divided into two main groups (responders and nonresponders) based on the response of their urinary flow rate to phentolamine and that the adrenergic nervous system of the bladder neck has an important effect on the response in responders.

A new technique of measuring bladder wall thickness using transvaginal ultrasound is described. Measurement of the bladder wall using ultrasound was found to have a good intra- and interobserver reproducibility. A retrospective analysis of 74 cases of transitional cell carcinoma of the renal pelvis and ureter treated at this institution over the past 30 years is presented. When nephrectomy alone or incomplete nephroureterectomy was performed, subsequent transitional cell carcinoma developed in 30% of the ureteral stumps. OBJECTIVES: To investigate the safety and efficacy of complete laparoscopic ileal augmentation cystoplasty for the treatment of low bladder capacity and compliance.
