Techniques for conservative management of different upper urinary tract pathologies have been widely used in the last decade. Endourological treatment of ureteral fistulas is one of the fields which has developed significantly. Our experience in the management of this condition consists of 9 patients that had been treated from 1983 to the present time. Four of these were in transplanted kidneys. A series of 54 men, 25 with acute urinary retention and 29 with cytometrically proven bladder outflow obstruction (BOO), underwent dilatation of the prostatic urethra using a 35 mm fixed diameter, low compliance balloon. In 42 patients this was performed under cystoscopic guidance and in 12 patients under fluoroscopic control. During the period April, 1985 to March, 1986, Trichosporon beigelii was isolated from the urine of 15 intensive care unit patients. All of these patients had Foley catheters in place at the time of T beigelii isolation. Implantation of the ureter into the calyx is indicated in cases of uretero-pelvic stricture when anastomosis of the ureter with the pelvis is impossible. Results of this procedure performed in ten cases are presented. In two cases the same kidney was operated upon twice; in five cases the results were satisfactory; in two cases the results were poor, and in one case the time of observation is too short for proper evaluation.

AIM: To compare the efficacy of two mechanical devices for pre-induction of labor cervical ripening: the Foley catheter and the Cook cervical ripening balloon.
METHODS: This interventional study included 78 postdate primigravid women randomly allocated into two groups: the Foley or Cook balloon catheter. Removal of the catheters was planned approximately 12 h after insertion if spontaneous expulsion had not occurred. Between 1997 and 2001, 17 teaching and 56 non-teaching acute English hospitals conducted hospital-wide surveillance of hospital-acquired bacteraemia (HAB) using a standard protocol drawn up by the Nosocomial Infection National Surveillance Scheme (NINSS). PURPOSE: We evaluated the long-term efficacy of Acucise endopyelotomy.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 28 patients with 28 ureteropelvic junction obstructions was reevaluated 2 or more years after Acucise endopyelotomy (mean 32.5 months). Subjective analysis was done with analog pain scales and objective analysis was performed with diuretic renal scintigraphy.
