INTRODUCTION: Culture-independent studies have revealed a broad spectrum of oral bacterial taxa that may be associated with disease. The chicken pineal gland is directly photosensitive, with light causing an inhibition of melatonin synthesis. A possible role of phosphodiesterase 6 (PDE6, the primary effector of retinal phototransduction) in mediating this response was investigated. We have studied the structure and metabolism of type I procollagen in a case of perinatal lethal osteogenesis imperfecta (OI) type II. Cultured skin fibroblasts from the proband synthesized both normal and abnormal forms of type I procollagen. Glycogen Storage Disease type II (GSDII) is caused by the deficiency of lysosomal alpha-glucosidase (acid maltase). This paper reports on the characterization of the molecular defects in 6 infantile patients from Turkish ancestry. Five of the 6 patients had reduced levels of the lysosomal alpha-glucosidase precursor. The nucleotide sequences of 16S ribosomal DNA (rDNA) were determined for 39 strains of Chlamydia psittaci (34 from birds and 5 from mammals) and for 4 Chlamydia pecorum strains.
