The aim of the present study was to investigate the potential of nanoemulsion formulation for topical delivery of Clobetasol propionate (CP) using algal oil (containing omega-3 fatty acids) as the oil phase. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this work was to develop an elastic vesicular formulation to enhance the skin permeation of a poorly water-soluble 18β-glycyrrhetic acid (GA) and treat dermatitis.
METHODS: Elastic vesicles of GA were prepared by the film method with high pressure homogenizer and characterized by storage stability. In vitro permeation studies were carried on rat skin using Franz diffusion cell. In vivo skin deposition of GA was studied using HPLC assay. Chronic allergic contact dermatitis model was built to evaluate pharmacodynamic of GA elastic vesicles.

We analysed the patch test results in 1,374 patients suffering from dermatoses in the anogenital area (n = 561 genital dermatoses, n = 470 anal dermatoses, n = 343 anogenital dermatoses) patch tested in 44 dermatological departments of the Information Network of Departments of Dermatology from 2004 to 2008. All other patients patch tested during this time period without anogenital dermatoses formed the control group (n = 49, 142). Microsporum gypseum is a geophilic saprophyte for which soil is the natural habitat. Tinea corporis caused by Microsporum gypseum is rare and usually occurs after direct contact with the soil or healthy carrier animals. We present a case series of eight children with tinea corporis caused by M gypseum, with unusual clinic presentations mimicking dermatitis.

A 69-year-old patient, with known mercury and adhesive plaster allergy, developed facial dermatitis within 24 h of contact with arnica (Arnica). Skin testing showed positive reactions to arnica and, among various other plants of the Compositae, also to Tagetes sp. hybr. (marigold). Cross-reactivity between Tagetes and arnica has not previously been described.

Experimentally induced toxic contact dermatitis was topically treated with 3 different ointments (Kamillosan ointment, Kamillosan ointment base. 0.1% hydrocortisone acetate). The structural changes of the epidermal surface were studied by means of profilometry. According to our results, Kamillosan ointment is remarkably superior to other reference products with regard to its soothing effect on human skin.

The trial preparation, diflucortolone valerate, was tested clinically in the form of fatty ointment on 27 patients: 4 with psoriasis, 4 with neurodermatitis, 4 with contact dermatitis, 2 with actinodermatitis, 10 with eczema, 2 with cutaneous reticulosis and 1 with radiodermitis. In 89% of the cases the results were good; in 11% were they regular.

It has been proposed that chronic antigenic stimulation plays a role in the pathogenesis of cutaneous T-cell lymphoma (CTCL). By definition, antigenic stimulation triggers allergic contact dermatitis (ACD). It is therefore plausible that chronic ACD could serve as a precursor to CTCL. We report two cases of contact allergy to potassium dichromate, nickel and cobalt, where CTCL was diagnosed in one patient, and a diagnosis of CTCL is imminent in the other. The patient developed recurring redness and swelling on her earlobes a month after the wearing of pierced-type gold earrings, which was followed by the appearance of reddish nodules around the puncture marks.
