The two common characterization techniques that can distinguish between the metastable 1T and stable 2H phase of molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) are Raman spectroscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). Argon ion etching within XPS offers the possibility to explore sample composition as a function of depth. However, for 2H MoS2 samples this results in sample alteration via the creation of sulfur vacancies and leads to local areas of MoS2‑x and 1T/2H MoS2. XPS MoS2‑x generation (228.1 eV) and laboratory nanoscale 1T MoS2 synthesis (228.4 eV) are easily mistaken in XPS, as both signals exhi

Two-dimensional (2D) materials, with excellent optoelectronic properties and ultrathin structural features, have emerged as promising candidates for constructing optoelectronic synapse devices (OSDs). However, these 2D OSDs rely on van der Waals heterostructures formed by stacking multiple 2D materials or hybrid stacks of 2D and organic materials, a process that significantly complicates device fabrication. In this work, we simplify the structure of 2D OSDs to a monolayer molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) with a Fe:LiNbO3 crystal as the substrate. A monolayer MoS2 was transferred onto the surface of

C-type lectins (CTLs) serve as pivotal pattern recognition receptors (PRRs) within the innate immune system of invertebrates. In this study, we identified and characterized a novel CTL from the echiuran worm (Urechis unicinctus), termed UuCTL6, to elucidate its function in antimicrobial defense. Sequence analysis revealed that the open reading frame (ORF) of UuCTL6 comprises 1074 bp, encoding a polypeptide of 358-amino acid, which includes a conserved carbohydrate recognition domain (CRD) stabilized by two disulfide bonds. Sequence identity analysis showed that UuCTL6 shares 26.7%-31.6% amino

The evasion of regulated cell death (RCD) is a distinct hallmark of cancer that drives tumor progression, metastatic dissemination, and therapeutic resistance. Recent discoveries of non-canonical cell death pathways, namely disulfidptosis, anoikis, and PANoptosis, have provided promising new directions for overcoming resistance to conventional therapies. Disulfidptosis is characterized by intracellular disulfide stress and actin cytoskeleton collapse under glucose starvation; anoikis serves as an extracellular matrix detachment-induced barrier to metastasis; and PANoptosis acts as a highly reg

Two-dimensional materials such as graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4) and molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) have attracted considerable interest for optoelectronic and photocatalytic applications owing to their unique electronic structures and favorable optical characteristics. However, the performance of a single material is often constrained by inherent limitations in bandgap tunability and insufficient light absorption efficiency. In this study, a g-C3N4/MoS2 van der Waals heterostructure is constructed and its electronic and optical properties under biaxial strain and external electric field are s

Despite the promise of immune checkpoint blockade (ICB), only a minority of non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients achieve long-term benefits. In this study, we present a single-cell spatial transcriptomic landscape of NSCLC, revealing a previously uncharacterized link between elevated glutathione peroxidase 8 (Gpx8) and resistance to PD-1 blockade. Through CyTOF, CODEX, and ATAC-sequencing analyses, we demonstrate that Gpx8 knockout in both immunocompetent and humanized mouse models suppress tumor growth. This suppression is accompanied by increased infiltration of antitumor T lymphocyte

Beyond the canonical angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2)-mediated entry of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) into host cells, basigin (BSG) and dipeptidyl peptidase 4 (DPP4) may also act as alternative receptors that can facilitate viral attachment and subsequent endocytosis. Herein, we analyzed the binding efficiency and binding dynamics of SARS-CoV-2 virus-like particles (VLPs), mediated by BSG and DPP4 at the single-particle level, by combining super-resolution direct stochastic optical reconstruction microscopy (dSTORM) and single-molecule force spectroscopy (

Inspired by the gating behavior of biological ion channels, microchannel-based sensing has emerged as an effective strategy for regulating ionic transport through charge density and pore size modulation. Field-effect transistor (FET)-based biosensors have received considerable attention owing to their high sensitivity to subtle charge variations. In this study, this character had been coupled with the junction field-effect transistor (JFET) detection technique to develop a sensitive biosensor for glutathione (GSH). A hydrogel was formed by Schiff-base crosslinking between aldehyde-modified hya

Selective copper superfilling in microvias is governed by how co-additives compete for Cu surface sites under confined mass-transfer conditions, yet the interfacial characteristics that allow a leveler to remain effective in accelerator-containing electrolytes are not well understood. Here, we show that 2-mercaptopyridine (2-MP), a small N,S-containing heterocycle, enables selective bottom-up copper filling by stabilizing an inhibitory interfacial state against bis-(3-sulfopropyl) disulfide (SPS)-induced displacement. Galvanostatic measurements (GMs), cyclic voltammetry (CV), electrochemical i

Image feature extraction and enhancement are fundamental operations in real-time object detection using convolutional neural networks (CNNs). In conventional architectures, continuous data transfer between sensors, memory, and processing units leads to high energy consumption and latency. In-pixel computing using optoelectronic synaptic (OS) devices offers a promising solution by enabling sensing and computation within the same hardware. However, most OS studies remain primarily device-centric and lack circuit-level considerations necessary for scalable system integration. Here, we present a t

Volatile fingerprint analysis using Gas Chromatography-Ion Mobility Spectrometry (GC-IMS) was applied to differentiate cowhide (22 samples), sheepskin (6 samples), and pigskin (6 samples). A total of 126 signal peaks were detected from the whole GC-IMS dataset, with 96 volatile compounds identified. Principal Component Analysis (PCA) revealed distinct clustering: cowhide exhibited unique volatile profiles, separating itself clearly from sheepskin and pigskin, which showed significant similarity. This was confirmed by Hierarchical clustering, K-means clustering (optimal k = 2), and Partial Leas

Interactions between food processing-derived components and food proteins can markedly alter protein conformation and functional properties. Among them, cooking oil fume particles (COFPs) are widespread contaminants from high-temperature Chinese cooking. This study first compared the effects of COFPs from four common edible oils (rapeseed, RCOFPs; soybean, SCOFPs; corn, CCOFPs; and lard, LCOFPs) on the OVA structure and function. Physicochemical assays showed that all COFPs triggered OVA aggregation (particle size increased from 0.48 to 896.86 nm) and reduced zeta potential, driving an ordered

Mycelium-derived proteins from edible fungi have emerged as sustainable, nutritionally balanced, and industrially scalable alternative protein sources. Nevertheless, the limited functional performance of native mycelia restricts their broader incorporation into food formulations. This study investigated the effects of high-pressure homogenization (300-900 bar) and alkaline extraction (pH 9-12) on the structural and functional properties of Pleurotus citrinopileatus mycelial protein concentrates (PCMPCs). Extraction at 600 bar and pH 12 achieved the highest yield of 93.01% and a protein content

Oral mucosal wound repair remains a crucial clinical challenge, as the humid and highly dynamic oral microenvironment creates complex conditions that limit the efficacy of conventional treatment strategies. Bioadhesives have emerged as promising biomaterials that effectively address the key limitations of conventional treatments and open new avenues for oral mucosal wound repair. Herein, an ultrasound-responsive lipoic acid-based bioadhesive with in situ polymerization and targeted adhesion capabilities for oral mucosal wounds has been designed. Lipoic acid (LA) was used as the monomer and dis

BACKGROUND: Cysteine is a multifunctional amino acid that can be oxidized affecting disulfide bond formation, redox signaling, and protein function. Reactive oxygen species (ROS) and the metabolic environment dictate cysteine uptake and oxidation status-especially in redox sensitive pathways. As many chemotherapeutic agents increase ROS, including the standard care for glioblastoma (GBM), temozolomide (TMZ), we hypothesized that TMZ-resistant (TMZ-R) GBM would have increased ROS affecting cysteine reactivity that could be therapeutically targeted.
METHODS: Here, to study the metabolic state w

The involvement and the in vivo relevance of endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress in the atherosclerotic process are well established, but the mechanisms have been only partly elucidated. Emerging evidence indicates that ER protein folding pathways are sensitive to nitric oxide (NO) fluctuations and therefore heavily vulnerable under conditions of nitrosative stress. Recent research indicates that protein S-nitrosylation (S-NO), a key redox-mediated modification involved in several disorders, affects neuronal function by altering ER stress sensor proteins. However, the mechanisms by which ER prot

Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC), lacking effective therapeutic targets, is highly aggressive, prone to metastasis, and associated with poor prognosis, highlighting the necessity for innovative therapeutic strategies. Ferroptosis, an emerging form of iron-dependent programmed cell death, presents a promising treatment approach. However, its effectiveness is often hindered by adaptive resistance within the tumor microenvironment and inefficient drug delivery. To address these limitations, the glutathione (GSH)-responsive disulfide linker (-SS-) was utilized to engineer rhein (Rhe, chemother

Anterior gradient protein 2 (AGR2), a member of the protein disulfide isomerase family, plays a critical role in endoplasmic reticulum proteostasis and has been implicated in breast cancer progression. However, the downstream regulatory programs and signaling pathways governed by AGR2 remain incompletely defined. Here, we employed CRISPR-Cas9-mediated knockout of AGR2 in breast cancer cells to systematically investigate the functional and transcriptional consequences of AGR2 loss. AGR2 depletion resulted in significant suppression of cell migration, invasion, and chemoresistance. Unbiased tran

Bovine enterokinase light chain (EKL), a serine protease that specifically recognizes the Asp-Asp-Asp-Asp-Lys (DDDDK) sequence, is widely used for the specific cleavage of affinity tags in recombinant proteins. However, EKL contains multiple cysteine residues and four disulfide bonds, making it difficult to fold correctly, and it tends to form inactive inclusion bodies when expressed in Escherichia coli. To achieve efficient soluble expression of EKL in E. coli and screen high-activity mutants, co-expression of the DnaK-DnaJ-GrpE and GroES-GroEL molecular chaperones was adopted to enhance its

A wound is a prevalent clinical condition that requires a dressing to both prevent external damage and promote recovery. Herein, a novel wound dressing material was developed as an electrospun composite membrane based on cellulose acetate butyrate (CAB) to function as a drug carrier, with curcumin (Cur) as a model drug. The mechanical properties of the CAB-based membrane in the dry state were enhanced by a hybrid material composed of tungsten disulfide (WS2) and ZnAl layered double hydroxide (ZnAl-LDH), with improvements in tensile strength, Young's modulus, and toughness. The Cur-loaded CAB/W
