A 52-year-old Japanese woman was diagnosed as having angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma (stage IV-B). She received 6 courses of chemotherapy including cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin, vincristine, and prednisolone every two weeks (biweekly CHOP), and was considered to be in partial remission. Three cases of post-traumatic endophthalmitis caused by unusual bacteria are presented. The pathogens identified were: (i) Bacillus cereus and Citrobacter freundii; (ii) Pseudomonas fluorescens; and (iii) Chryseobacterium meningosepticum and Stenotrophomonas maltophilia. Two of these pathogens have not previously been reported to cause endophthalmitis. The available literature regarding the individual cases is summarized and a brief discussion of post-traumatic endophthalmitis is presented, with reference to a recently published large series at the authors' institution.

PURPOSE: To describe a patient with manifestations of ocular leech infestation.
METHOD: Case report.
RESULTS: The ocular foreign body was identified as a leech, Limnatis nilotica, by parasitologic examination. The leech was extracted, and the patient began using topical antibiotic and cycloplegic agents. By the third day after extraction, the patient had no obvious symptoms or signs, except for a limited subconjunctival hemorrhage, and no epithelial defect on the cornea was observed.
CONCLUSIONS: Ocular leech infestation should be considered in patients with a history of swimming in streams
