Coverage of iron and folic acid supplementation in India: progress under the Anemia Mukt Bharat strategy 2017-20.

High prevalence of anaemia is a severe public health problem in India. In 2018, India launched the Anemia Mukt Bharat (AMB) strategy that focuses on six beneficiary groups for coverage, six institutional mechanisms for health system strengthening and six programmatic interventions to accelerate reductions in anaemia prevalence. This paper uses the Health Management Information System data (2017-18 to 2019-20) to examine gains in IFA coverage across Indian states. A coverage-based AMB index is computed to review performance across states. After the launch of AMB strategy, the Iron and Folic Aci

Substance use disorders and medical comorbidities among high-need, high-risk patients with diabetes.

BACKGROUND: The majority of the U.S. healthcare resources are utilized by a small population characterized as high-risk, high-need persons with complex care needs (e.g., adults with multiple chronic conditions). Substance use disorders (SUDs) and mental health disorders (MHDs) are a driver of poor health and additional healthcare costs, but they are understudied among high-need patients. OBJECTIVE: We examine the prevalence and correlates of SUDs and MHDs among adults with high-risk diabetes, who are patients at the top 10% risk score for developing poor outcomes (hospital admission or death)

INdigenous Systems and Policies Improved and Reimagined for Ear and hearing care (INSPIRE): a multi-method study protocol.

INTRODUCTION: Otitis media (middle ear disease) severity and chronicity among Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, as well as gaps in socioeconomic outcomes related to hearing loss, indicates a breakdown in the current ear and hearing care system. The ear and hearing care system spans multiple sectors due to long-term impacts of otitis media and hearing loss in health, education and employment, necessitating a multi-disciplinary cross-sectorial approach to ear and hearing care. Public policies shape the current ear and hearing care system and here it is argued that a critical public p

System within systems: challenges and opportunities for the Expanded Programme on Immunisation in Pakistan.

BACKGROUND: Pakistan has one of the highest infant and child mortality rates in the world, half of these occurring due to vaccine-preventable diseases. The country started its Expanded Programme on immunisation (EPI) in 1978. However, the programme's performance is often questioned, as the Immunisation rates have been chronically low and on-time vaccination unsatisfactory. We explored the programme's insights about its structural and implementation arrangements within the larger governance system, and the ensuing challenges as well as opportunities. METHODS: We carried out a qualitative case

Measuring cancer equity globally: harmonising international rural-urban classifications for exploring cancer outcomes.

UNLABELLED: Geographic disparities in cancer outcomes represent a critical health equity challenge, with rural populations consistently experiencing poorer outcomes than urban populations. The lack of harmonised rurality measures creates substantial barriers to evidence synthesis and has precluded meta-analyses. This perspectives paper discusses concepts of rurality, identifies rurality classification systems used by cancer researchers in OECD countries that can be harmonised with the OECD Extended Typology, and develops recommendations for consistent rural-urban coding. A pressure and shear sensor system for stress measurement at lower limb residuum/socket interface.

A sensor system for measurement of pressure and shear at the lower limb residuum/socket interface is described. The system comprises of a flexible sensor unit and a data acquisition unit with wireless data transmission capability. Static and dynamic performance of the sensor system was characterised using a mechanical test machine. The static calibration results suggest that the developed sensor system presents high linearity (linearity error ≤ 3.8%) and resolution (0.9 kPa for pressure and 0.2 kPa for shear). Dynamic characterisation of the sensor system shows hysteresis error of approximatel

The Use of Deep Learning and Machine Learning on Longitudinal Electronic Health Records for the Early Detection and Prevention of Diseases: Scoping Review.

BACKGROUND: Electronic health records (EHRs) contain patients' health information over time, including possible early indicators of disease. However, the increasing amount of data hinders clinicians from using them. There is accumulating evidence suggesting that machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL) can assist clinicians in analyzing these large-scale EHRs, as algorithms thrive on high volumes of data. Although ML has become well developed, studies mainly focus on engineering but lack medical outcomes. OBJECTIVE: This study aims for a scoping review of the evidence on how the use of ML

Positive family history of colorectal cancer in a general practice setting [FRIDA.Frankfurt]: study protocol of a of a cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND: Although the risk of developing colorectal cancer (CRC) is 2-4 times higher in case of a positive family history, risk-adapted screening programs for family members related to CRC- patients do not exist in the German health care system. CRC screening recommendations for persons under 55 years of age that have a family predisposition have been published in several guidelines. The primary aim of this study is to determine the frequency of positive family history of CRC (1st degree relatives with CRC) among 40-54 year old persons in a general practitioner (GP) setting in Germany. National Quality Measure Fails to Capture Most Emergency Department Patients With Opioid Use Disorder.

OBJECTIVES: Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set (HEDIS) measure Follow-up After Emergency Department Visit for Substance Use (FUA) assesses care coordination after discharge from an emergency department visit for a high-risk substance-use event. We hypothesized that the FUA denominator undercounts OUD-related ED visits. METHODS: We audited a multihospital public health system's electronic health record (EHR) to identify ED visits by patients with OUD to compare these with the OUD visits captured in the system's automated FUA reporting. RESULTS: From April 1, 2024, through Febru

Multisystemic Resources Matter for Resilience to Depression: Learning From a Sample of Young South African Adults.

This article interrogates the continuing emphasis on personal sources of resilience; it also amends the inattention to the protective factors and processes (PFPs) that support the mental health resilience of African emerging adults. To that end, we report a study that explored which PFPs distinguished risk-exposed South African 18- to 29-year-olds with negligible depression symptoms from those who reported moderate to severe symptoms. Using an arts-based approach, young people volunteered the PFPs they had personally experienced as resilience-enabling. An inductive thematic analysis of visual
