Of 99 patients operated on with subtotal pancreatectomy due to ampullary carcinoma, five had a local recurrence in the pancreatic bed at the ligament of Treitz. The patients all had distinct symptoms: recurrent bouts of fever, general malaise, and rapid loss of weight. Ruptures of the cruciate ligaments continue to pose both diagnostic and therapeutic problems. On the basis of structural analysis of MR images obtained after the accident and the results of conservative treatment, it can be shown that function healing of the rupture can result, when, for example, the synovial membrane (capsule) is preserved (70%). OBJECTIVE: To investigate the correlation between initial ligament damage and development of subsequent osteoarthritic changes.
METHODS: Collagenase was injected intraarticularly into the knee joint of mice of strain C57B16 or C57B110. Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction is associated with significant postoperative pain, usually requiring parenteral narcotics. A prospective study of arthroscopically assisted autograft patellar tendon ACLR was initiated using Winnie's "three-in-one" femoral nerve block (FNB) as the primary means of postoperative pain control. Patient satisfaction and absence of parenteral narcotic use indicated clinical success. Of 24 patients studied, 92% had no parenteral narcotics administered following FNB. Ninety-five percent of patients believed FNB was beneficial and would request another.
