Occupational Stress as a Possible Risk Factor for Rotator Cuff Damage - Systematic Review and Meta-analysis.

PURPOSE: In September 2021, the Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs in Germany (BMAS) recommended recognising rotator cuff lesions caused by occupational long-term overhead work, repetitive movements, hand-arm-vibration and carrying and lifting heavy loads as an occupational disease. To gain a more detailed understanding of the correlation between occupational risk factors and lesions of the rotator cuff, a systematic literature review was carried out to determine their influence on the development of rotator cuff disease. MATERIAL AND METHOD: A systematic literature review was used

The symbol in the body: the un-doing of a dissociation through Embodied Active Imagination in Jungian analysis.

Jung understood dissociation as a natural state of the psyche, capable of turning defensive through development. Based on this premise, and its conception on the equivalence between psyche and matter, the present work describes the un-doing of a dissociation expressed through a chronic enterocolitis disorder. When the symbol remains closer to the body and its most instinctive manifestations, we need to descend to that level in order to let the vertical axis connection be gradually restored through the therapeutic relationship - the horizontal axis. In other words, this un-doing requires that p

Disrupted Eye Movements in Preperimetric Primary Open-Angle Glaucoma.

PURPOSE: Primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) can be associated with abnormal ocular motor behavior, possibly as a compensatory strategy following visual field loss. The aim of this study was to explore the characteristics of saccadic eye movements in patients with early-stage POAG without any detectable glaucomatous visual field loss (i.e., preperimetric POAG). METHODS: Binocular eye movements were explored in 16 patients with bilateral preperimetric POAG and 16 age-matched healthy controls in a cross-sectional, observational study. Visually guided horizontal prosaccades (5°, 10°, 15°, and 20°

Does Postural Rigidity Decrease during REM Sleep without Atonia in Parkinson Disease?

STUDY OBJECTIVES: Rigidity is a muscle hypertonia typical of Parkinson disease (PD), whereas rapid eye movement (REM) sleep behavior disorder (RBD) is characterized by abnormally increased muscle tone during REM sleep (REM sleep without atonia) and enacting dream behaviors. Because movements are not bradykinetic during RBD in patients with PD, we investigated whether the background, wake postural rigidity is attenuated during REM sleep without atonia, in absence of movement. METHODS: The amplitude of levator menti (postural muscle) electromyographic activity during relaxed evening wakefulness

Distal motor deficit contributions to postural instability and gait disorder in Parkinson's disease.

Clinical subtypes in Parkinson's disease (PD) are often based on the presence of clustered motor symptoms. In contrast to the tremor dominant (TD) subtype, the postural instability and gait disorder (PIGD) subtype is characterized by predominantly axial motor involvement and increased cognitive impairment. It is, however, unclear if subtypes represent distinct underlying neuropathological mechanisms or reflect more severe disease progression. We aimed to clarify the validity of PD subtypes by investigating behavioral outcomes at multiple levels. Therefore, spatiotemporal kinematics of gait, up

Physical fitness in children with developmental coordination disorder: measurement matters.

Children with Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD) experience considerable difficulties coordinating and controlling their body movements during functional motor tasks. Thus, it is not surprising that children with DCD do not perform well on tests of physical fitness. The aim of this study was to determine whether deficits in motor coordination influence the ability of children with DCD to perform adequately on physical fitness tests. A case-control study design was used to compare the performance of children with DCD (n=70, 36 boys, mean age=8 y 1 mo) and Typically Developing (TD) childr

Evaluation of periodic limb movements in a putative animal model of restless leg syndrome.

Restless leg syndrome (RLS) is a major healthcare burden with increasing prevalence. It has been demonstrated that periodic limb movements (PLM) can occur as an isolated phenomenon, but they are often associated with this syndrome and are the only symptom of this disorder that can be measured electrophysiologically. The aim of this study was to examine the sleep-wake behavior and the presence of limb movement in a rat model of RLS induced by lesioning the A11 dopaminergic nuclei with the neurotoxin 6-hydroxydopamine (6-OHDA). Rats were implanted with electrodes for electrocorticography and ele

Reflexive and volitional saccades: biomarkers of Huntington disease severity and progression.

BACKGROUND: Huntington disease (HD) is a genetic, neurodegenerative disorder characterized by chorea, behavioral co-morbidities, cognitive deficits, and eye movement abnormalities. We sought to evaluate whether reflexive and voluntary orienting prove useful as biomarkers of disease severity in HD. METHODS: Eleven HD subjects were evaluated with the motor subscale of the Unified Huntington Disease Rating Scale (UHDRS) and the Montreal Cognitive Assessment. Using an infrared eye tracker, we also measured latency and error rates of horizontal and vertical saccades using prosaccade and antisaccad

Bilateral pallidal stimulation in children and adolescents with primary generalized dystonia--report of six patients and literature-based analysis of predictive outcomes variables.

INTRODUCTION: Primary generalized dystonia is a rare movement disorder. Medical treatment rarely relieves symptoms. The aim of this study was to investigate the efficacy and safety of bilateral pallidal stimulation in 6 children and adolescents with primary generalized dystonia. In addition, we strived to find predictors for treatment outcome by review and analysis of previously published studies. METHODS: Six patients with primary generalized dystonia underwent chronic bilateral stimulation of the globus pallidus internus. A PubMed and MEDLINE search was performed in order to identify childr

Referential delusions of communication and interpretations of gestures.

Gestures are an important aspect of non-verbal communication, but people with schizophrenia have poor comprehension of them. However, the tests of gesture comprehension that have been used present only scenes in which interpersonal meaning is communicated, though there is evidence that people with psychotic disorders tend to perceive communications where none were intended. Such mistakes about non-verbal behaviour are the hallmark of a subtype of delusions of reference identified as delusions of communication. Thus we hypothesised that patients with delusions of communication would tend to mis

Kinematics of initiating a two-joint arm movement in patients with cerebellar ataxia.

OBJECTIVE: To characterize kinematically any systematic aberration in multi-joint movements in cerebellar ataxia. METHODS: Nine patients with cerebellar degeneration and nine normal subjects, mobile only at the shoulder and elbow of the right arm, were required to produce left-to-right cross-body linear hand trajectories on the horizontal surface of a digitizing tablet. Nonlinearity indicated failure of precise coordination of the two joints. A wide range of hand speeds was studied. Data analysis was restricted primarily to the first 130 ms of movement. RESULTS: As hand velocities increased,

Do Most Children with Functional Constipation Meet the Commonly Used Clinical Trial Endpoints?

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Functional constipation (FC) is diagnosed using the Rome IV criteria, which require at least two of seven symptoms for diagnosis. Clinical trials evaluating FC treatments commonly use bowel movement frequency, stool consistency, and fecal incontinence as primary endpoints. However, there is limited data on whether these endpoints accurately represent the symptom distribution in children with FC. This study assessed the frequency of each criterion in a large children's community sample to determine whether commonly used clinical trial endpoints accurately reflect symptom

Insight into the Relationship Between Motor and Cognitive Symptoms in Essential Tremor.

Essential tremor (ET) is a heterogeneous disorder characterized by bilateral upper limbs action tremor and, possibly, neurological signs of uncertain significance, including voluntary movement abnormalities and cognitive disturbances, i.e., the so-called 'soft' signs configuring the ET-plus definition. While motor and cognitive disturbances often coexist in ET, their interrelationship remains largely unexplored. Here we aim to further investigate the relationship between motor symptoms, objectively assessed through kinematic analysis, and cognitive dysfunctions in ET. Seventy ET patients under

Deep-Learning Markerless Tracking of Infant General Movements using Standard Video Recordings.

Monitoring spontaneous General Movements (GM) of infants 6-20 weeks post-term age is a reliable tool to assess the quality of neurodevelopment in early infancy. Abnormal or absent GMs are reliable prognostic indicators of whether an infant is at risk of developing neurological impairments and disorders such as cerebral palsy (CP). Therapeutic interventions are most effective at improving neuromuscular outcomes if administered in early infancy. Current clinical protocols require trained assessors to rate videos of infant movements, a time-intensive task. This work proposes a simple, inexpensive

Comprehensive Intervention and Effect of Martial Arts Routines on Children with Autism.

Источник пометил публикацию как отозванную

Autism in children is a representative disease of pervasive developmental disorder, and there is currently no matching treatment. In the course of treatment, people generally use special education training, but this training mode cannot meet the comprehensive development of children. The traditional treatment mode cannot meet the changing new situation due to its poor adaptability. Martial arts routine movements are the soul of martial arts training, which can lay the foundation for movement training. Based on this, this article takes children with autism as research objects and aims to analyz

Genetic vulnerability of exposures to antenatal maternal treatments in 1- to 2-month-old infants.

The growth and maturation of the nervous system are vulnerable during pregnancy. The impact of antenatal exposures to maternal treatments, in the context of genetic vulnerability of the fetus, on sensorimotor functioning in early infancy remains unexplored. Statistical features of head movements obtained from resting-state sleep fMRI scans are examined in 1- to 2-month-old infants, both those at high risk (HR) for autism spectrum disorder (ASD) due to a biological sibling with ASD and at low risk (LR) (N = 56). In utero exposures include maternal prescription medications (psychotropic Rx: N =

Effect of Botulinum Toxin on Equinus Foot Deformity in Cerebral Palsy Patients: A Systematic Review and Network Meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Cerebral palsy (CP) is a brain disorder that affects the development, movement and posture leading to limitation of Range of Movement (ROM) in the growing children. CP leads to deformities such as equinus foot deformity. We aim to investigate the efficacy of different botulinum toxin (BTX) products with or without serial casting in reducing the muscle spasticity in equinus foot deformity in patients with CP. METHODS: A systematic review of the literature was performed by searching different electronic databases. Pub- Med, Scopus, Web of Science (WOS), and GHL databases were used.

Hand Motor Cortex Excitability During Speaking in Persistent Developmental Stuttering.

Persistent developmental stuttering (PDS) is a speech fluency disorder characterized by intermittent involuntary breakdowns of speech motor control, possibly related to motor cortex excitability. Whether motor cortex dysfunction extends into hand representations is unclear. We here studied task-dependent modulations of hand motor cortex excitability in 10 right-handed adults who stutter (AWS) and 13 age- and sex-matched fluent speaking control participants (ANS), covering a wide range of tasks in an exploratory study. Before, during and after a null speech/rest task, spontaneous speech, solo r
