Epidemiological trends and predictive factors of adolescent scoliosis in qingdao: insights from a Large-scale screening program (2022-2024).

BACKGROUND: Adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) is a systemic musculoskeletal disorder characterized by a three-dimensional curvature of the spine. It often progresses silently during puberty and can have significant physical and psychological consequences for affected adolescents. Early detection through school-based screening is vital for timely intervention, yet region-specific epidemiological data from northern coastal China remain limited. METHODS: This school-based cross-sectional study screened 57,393 students from grades 3 to 9 in Qingdao City between 2022 and 2024. Standardized ass

Comparing linear and nonlinear finite element models of vertebral strength across the thoracolumbar spine: a benchmark from density-calibrated computed tomography.

BACKGROUND: Opportunistic assessment of vertebral strength from clinical computed tomography (CT) scans holds substantial promise for fracture risk stratification, yet variability in calibration methods and finite element (FE) modeling approaches has led to limited comparability across studies. In this work, we provide a publicly available benchmark dataset that supports standardized biomechanical analysis of the thoracic and lumbar spine using density-calibrated CT data. We extended the VerSe 2019 dataset to include phantomless quantitative CT calibration, automated vertebral substructure seg

Unmasking nonspecific pain - clinical clues and diagnostic challenges in acute aortic syndromes: Case series.

RATIONALE: Acute aortic syndromes, including dissection and aneurysm, are life-threatening vascular emergencies that often present with vague, nonspecific pain. Such pain may mimic common musculoskeletal or visceral disorders such as vertebrogenic, renal, or gastrointestinal pain, leading to diagnostic delays and adverse outcomes. This case series underscores how atypical vertebrogenic-like pain can conceal underlying aortic pathology and highlights the importance of early imaging in suspicious cases. PATIENT CONCERNS: A 56-year-old man with descending thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysm, and 35

The application of acupuncture in the management of neuropathic orofacial pain: a narrative literature review.

Neuropathic orofacial pain (NOP), which includes conditions such as trigeminal neuralgia, burning mouth syndrome, and temporomandibular disorders, poses a significant clinical challenge. This difficulty arises primarily from its diverse pathophysiological mechanisms and the limited efficacy of conventional treatments. This review highlights recent progress in understanding the mechanisms underlying NOP while also evaluating the potential of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), with a particular focus on acupuncture, as an integrative therapeutic approach. Emerging clinical studies suggest that

Therapeutic potential of melatonin in musculoskeletal medicine.

Melatonin, traditionally recognised for regulating circadian rhythms, has gained increasing attention in pharmaceutical science due to its pleiotropic actions extending beyond sleep physiology. Evidence from PubMed-indexed studies demonstrates that melatonin exerts receptor-dependent and receptor-independent effects relevant to musculoskeletal health, including antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, mitochondrial, and epigenetic regulation. In bone, it promotes osteoblast differentiation, suppresses osteoclastogenesis, and preserves microarchitecture, with promising applications in the treatment of o

COVID-19: Post infection implications in different age groups, mechanism, diagnosis, effective prevention, treatment, and recommendations.

SARS-CoV-2 is a highly contagious pathogen that predominantly caused the COVID-19 pandemic. The persistent effects of COVID-19 are defined as an inflammatory or host response to the virus that begins four weeks after initial infection and persists for an undetermined length of time. Chronic effects are more harmful than acute ones thus, this review explored the long-term effects of the virus on various human organs, including the pulmonary, cardiovascular, and neurological, reproductive, gastrointestinal, musculoskeletal, endocrine, and lymphoid systems and found that SARS-CoV-2 adversely affe

Effects of pain neuroscience education combined with neuromuscular exercises on pain, functional disability and psychological factors in chronic low back pain: A study protocol for a single-blind randomized controlled trial.

OBJECTIVE: Chronic low back pain (CLBP) is a prevalent health condition worldwide. Several therapeutic interventions aim to improve CLBP. Pain Neuroscience Education (PNE) helps patients better understand their pain from biological and physiological perspectives, which clinicians use to reduce pain and disability in patients with chronic musculoskeletal conditions. Neuromuscular exercises (NMS) are also treatments adopted in CLBP. This study will investigate whether PNE combined with an NMS program improves pain, functional and psychological outcomes more than NMS alone in patients with CLBP.
