Lung cancer associated with partial anomalous pulmonary venous connection in the non-resected lobe: A case report.

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Partial anomalous pulmonary venous connection (PAPVC) is a relatively rare congenital vascular anomaly that complicates the surgical management of lung cancer and other lung lesions. CASE PRESENTATION: A 74-year-old woman underwent computed tomography (CT) during an episode of chest trauma. Chest CT showed a 24-mm ground glass opacity in the right lower lobe and a PAPVC in the right upper lobe. She was diagnosed with suspected stage IA1 lung cancer with clinical T1miN0M0 and was scheduled for surgery. Preoperative catheterization revealed a pulmonary to systemic f

Mechanical Thrombectomy for Medium-Vessel Occlusion with a Right-Sided Aortic Arch: A Case Report.

OBJECTIVE: A right-sided aortic arch is a rare vascular anomaly, and neuroendovascular therapy through the right-sided aortic arch is extremely rare. Herein, we report the case of a patient with a right-sided aortic arch who performed a mechanical thrombectomy for medium-vessel occlusion. CASE PRESENTATION: An 84-year-old woman could not respond to her family during a conversation at 8:50 am. She was brought to our hospital at 10:30 am on the same day. A diffusion-weighted image of head magnetic resonance imaging revealed a high-intensity area in the left temporal lobe. Head magnetic resonanc

Surgery for fibrous dysplasia associated with aneurysmal-bone-cyst-like changes in right proximal femur: A case report.

BACKGROUND: Fibrous dysplasia associated with aneurysmal bone cyst (ABC)-like changes in the right proximal femur has a low incidence. It is considered more difficult to make early diagnosis than for single fibrous dysplasia. CASE SUMMARY: A 14-year-old woman was admitted because of persistent pain in the right hip and abnormal gait over the previous 2 mo. She had no history of present or past illness. Preoperative photography, enhanced computed tomography, and magnetic resonance imaging showed ground-glass appearance with cortical scalloping and expansion of the right proximal femur and femo

Iatrogenic incarcerated diaphragmatic hernia following laparoscopic resection of a diaphragmatic cystic lymphangioma: A case report.

INTRODUCTION: Incarcerated iatrogenic right diaphragm hernia stands as a rare occurrence. Swift diagnosis and timely management are imperative. This article presents a particularly uncommon case of a right diaphragmatic hernia resulting from a neglected defect following the resection of a diaphragmatic lymphangioma and sheds light on the pitfalls that may lead to such a post-operative event. PRESENTATION OF CASE: Our surgical ward admitted a 36-year-old patient presenting symptoms indicative of bowel obstruction. Four months earlier, the patient had undergone laparoscopic resection of a lymph

Isolated right ventricular Takotsubo cardiomyopathy in Guillain-Barré syndrome.

BACKGROUND: Takotsubo cardiomyopathy can present itself in the most varied clinical forms, with extremely variable electrocardiogram anomalies and presence of comorbidities with a significant systemic commitment. Guillain-Barré Syndrome concomitant with isolated right ventricular Takotsubo cardiomyopathy is a rare entity. Here we present a patient with Guillain-Barré syndrome who had electrocardiogram abnormalities consistent with isolated right ventricular Takotsubo cardiomyopathy which have not been described in literature. This case report may prompt early identification of right ventricula

Chemoprevention for Colorectal Cancers: Are Chemopreventive Effects Different Between Left and Right Sided Colorectal Cancers?

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Recent studies have suggested that right- and left-sided colorectal cancers (CRCs) are molecularly distinct. In this study, we examined the association between the risk of right- and left-sided CRC and drug use to estimate their chemopreventive effects METHODS: This multicenter retrospective cohort study was conducted using the data of hospitalized patients between 2014 and 2019 from nine hospital databases. The primary outcomes were right- and left-sided CRC. We evaluated the association of CRCs with drug use and clinical factors. Odds ratios adjusted for age, sex, Charls

Significant Liver Atrophy Due to Vascular Compromise Associated With Adult Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia.

Diaphragmatic hernia in adults is mostly post-traumatic in origin, and rarely congenital. In both situations, the right side is less commonly involved due to the protection offered by the liver and earlier closure of the right pleuroperitoneal canal. A congenital diaphragmatic hernia may present in adulthood with multi-visceral contents, of which the liver is an extremely rare content, mentioned only in a few previous reports. A herniated liver may mimic a pulmonary tumor and may be completely atrophic due to sustained compression of the venous outflow. Careful operative planning is essential

Eventration of right diaphragm with an intrathoracic ectopic kidney: A case report.

INTRODUCTION: Congenital diaphragmatic eventration is characterized by the elevation of the diaphragm, causing a protrusion of the intraabdominal viscera into the affected hemithorax and resulting in respiratory distress. Diaphragmatic eventration with an intrathoracic ectopic kidney is a very rare disorder with the incidence of 0.25% of all ectopias. PRESENTATION OF CASE: A 16-day-old male presented with chief complaint of respiratory distress. His plain chest X-ray showed intestinal gases in the right diaphragm and elevation of the right diaphragm. Intraoperative findings revealed elevation

Ocular ischemic syndrome; A case report.

BACKGROUND: Ocular ischemic syndrome is not a common condition so most of these cases are often misdiagnosed or treated as a different entity. Therefore, it is very important for the ophthalmologists to have this condition in mind as a differential so that the patients can be diagnosed and treated as early as possible. A 42 years female presented with painless, progressive diminution of vision in right eye over the period of 1 month. She doesn't give any history of redness of eyes, fever or trauma. There is no history of diabetes mellitus or hypertension as well. On examination, vision in righ

Right versus left congenital diaphragmatic hernia - What's the difference?

BACKGROUND: Right-sided congenital diaphragmatic hernias (CDH) and bigger defect sizes have been associated with poorer outcomes. AIM: The aim of this study was to evaluate right- and left-sided CDH in terms of size, survival, associated anomalies, and morbidity. MATERIAL AND METHODS: We used information from a multicenter, multinational database including patients with CDH born between 2007 and 2015. All infants with data on defect side were included for this analysis. We compared differences in outcomes between right- and left-sided CDH. Further analysis on the association between side, si

Hydatid cyst of paravertebral muscle mimicking disc herniation.

STUDY DESIGN: Case report. OBJECTIVE: To present a case of primary hydatid cyst in the lumbar subcutaneous tissue affecting posterior paravertebral muscle and mimicking disc herniation. SUMMARY OF BACKGROUND DATA: Cystic hydatid disease is a rare but significant parasitic disease in endemic areas. Musculoskeletal or soft tissue hydatidosis accounts for about 0.5% to 5% of all echinococcal infections in endemic areas and is almost secondary to the hepatic or pulmonary disease. Primary lumbar subcutaneous hydatid cyst affecting paravertebral muscle and extending to neural foramina is a very ra

Atrial septostomy benefits severe pulmonary hypertension patients by increase of left ventricular preload reserve.

At present, it is unknown why patients suffering from severe pulmonary hypertension (PH) benefit from atrial septostomy (AS). Suggested mechanisms include enhanced filling of the left ventricle, reduction of right ventricular preload, increased oxygen availability in the peripheral tissue, or a combination. A multiscale computational model of the cardiovascular system was used to assess the effects of AS in PH. Our model simulates beat-to-beat dynamics of the four cardiac chambers with valves and the systemic and pulmonary circulations, including an atrial septal defect (ASD). Oxygen saturatio

Bilateral adrenal leiomyosarcoma treated with multiple local therapies.

A 62-year-old woman presented with right flank pain, and computed tomography (CT) showed bilateral adrenal tumors (right, 8 cm; left, 4 cm). There were no abnormal findings on physical examination, and adrenal hormone levels in serum and urine were within normal limits. Radiological studies showed a right adrenal tumor with intratumoral hemorrhage, a cystic tumor in the left adrenal gland, and no sign of distant metastasis. Because laboratory tests showed normal levels of adrenal hormones, we considered the tumors to be nonfunctioning adrenal tumors. The right adrenal tumor was surgically remo

MRI assessment of right ventricular dysplasia.

Right ventricular dysplasia is a new entity of unknown origin in the classification of cardiomyopathies. Also known as arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy (ARVC) or arrhythmogenic right ventricular dysplasia, it is a disease of the heart muscle characterised by fibroadipose atrophy mainly involving the right ventricle and responsible for severe ventricular arrhythmias and sudden death also in young people. Magnetic resonance imaging provides evidence of ventricular dilatation at the outflow tract, thinning and thickening of the wall, diastolic bulging areas (especially located at t

[Cardiologic diagnosis of pulmonary embolism: echocardiography].

Pulmonary embolism (PE) represents the third more frequent cardiovascular disease following the acute coronary artery disease and stroke. The most important predisposing clinical condition for PE is represented by the deep-vein thrombosis. The clinical diagnosis of PE has a very low accuracy; so the clinical suspect has to be necessarily directed towards the performance of diagnostic procedures. Among the most used procedures, the echocardiography has a diagnostic role but also a prognostic one. Moreover, it offers precious informations useful to perform the most suitable treatment. The echoca

[Tricuspid insufficiency in posterior infarction caused by occlusion of the right coronary artery. Anatomical study].

Thirty-one autopsy cases of patients (20 men, 11 women) who died within 5 days of the onset of primary posterior wall myocardial infarction due to occlusion of the right coronary artery (RCA) were divided into two groups: Group A (19 cases) with associated right ventricular infarction and Group B 812 cases) without right ventricular extension of the infarct. The causes of death were practically identical in the two groups except for cardiac rupture which was always septal and more common in Group A. In Group A, the complete occlusion of the RCA was always proximal to (18 cases) or at the site
