AIM: Th17 cells are a newly discovered T helper lymphocyte subpopulation, producing interleukin IL-17. Th17 cells are present in blood and peritoneal fluid (PF) at different stages of endometriosis. We aim to establish their potential importance in the pathogenesis and clinical features of the disease.
METHODS: The percentage of Th17 cells among T helper lymphocytes was determined in the PF and peripheral blood (PB) of patients with endometriosis and in the control group by flow cytometry using monoclonal antibodies: anti-CD-4-FITC, anti-CD-3-PE/Cy5, and anti-IL-17A-PE.

Prostate cancer most commonly metastasizes to bone, lung and liver. Omental metastasis of prostate cancer is extremely rare, with only a few cases reported in the literature, many of which have associated ascites. We present a case of non-ascitic omental metastasis of prostate cancer without any bone metastases. Furthermore, this patient has had two negative measurements of circulating tumor cells (CTCs) in the blood, suggesting a non-hematogenous route of metastasis to the omentum.

In the Western world, peritoneal dialysis (PD) is less frequently applied as substitute therapy in end-stage renal disease (ESRD). In the Netherlands the use of PD has decreased from 30.3 to 13.5% due to several factors, but not due to lower PD-related outcome. INTRODUCTION: There is no specific treatment for neuropathy in chronic kidney disease (CKD). We compared nerve function across hemodialysis (HD) and peritoneal dialysis (PD).
METHODS: Subjects underwent neurological assessment and neurophysiological testing using nerve excitability studies. Pre- and postdialysis studies were undertaken in HD (n = 10) and PD (n = 10) patients and were compared with stage 4 CKD patients (n = 12) and healthy controls (n = 20).
