Vertebroplasty is a image-guided therapeutic procedure, consisting of an injection of acrylic cement through a bone biopsy needle into a vertebral body. Main indication for vertebroplasty is painful vertebral body compression fracture due to osteoporosis. The procedure is an efficient mean with high success in pain release and prevention of further collapse of the treated vertebrae; however, the technique does not allow to realign the spine. PURPOSE: To evaluate the usefulness of osseous phlebography preceding percutaneous vertebroplasty.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Seventy-five patients with painful osteoporotic (57) or malignant (18) vertebral fractures were treated by percutaneous vertebroplasty under fluoroscopic control. The purpose of this study was to evaluate range of motion and patient-reported outcome after complete arthroscopic release of post-traumatic elbow contracture. Fourteen consecutive patients who underwent elbow arthroscopy and capsular release were reviewed retrospectively at a minimum follow-up of 1 year. Pain and range of motion were measured. In order to determine the incidence of avascular necrosis after osteotomy of the talar neck, we re-evaluated 11 patients (16 feet) with idiopathic club foot who had undergone this procedure at a mean age of eight years (5 to 13) to correct a residual adduction deformity. OBJECTIVES/HYPOTHESIS: Transtympanic electrocochleography (t-ECOG) is a sensitive diagnostic instrument used for Meniere's disease. It is sensitive by virtue of the recording electrode's position on the promontory of the cochlea where the signals are generated. There is concern about the invasive nature of t-ECOG in comparison to extratympanic recording techniques. BACKGROUND: In a prospective clinical trial, a group of patients receiving less invasive surgical procedure, including minithoracotomy in combination with cardiopulmonary bypass (group 1), was compared to a group of patients receiving conventional bypass surgery (group 2) for the treatment of coronary artery disease.
METHODS: Group 1 included 85 patients (71 men, 14 women, aged 39 to 82 years, median 61.1 +/- 9.0 years); group 2 included 53 patients (38 men, 15 women, aged 51 to 79 years, median 62.0 +/- 6.1 years).
RESULTS: There were no perioperative deaths in the whole series of patients.
