BACKGROUND: Controversy exists in sentinel lymph node (SLN) mapping in breast cancer regarding the appropriate number of nodes to remove and the best technique for identification of the SLNs.
METHODS: A retrospective chart review from January of 1999 to January of 2004 was performed for all patients undergoing a SLN biopsy examination who had at least 1 positive SLN.
RESULTS: We identified 167 patients. A mean of 4.4 SLNs were removed per patient. All of the positive SLNs were identified by node 6. Radiotracer used alone identified 19 positive nodes (11.4%) and blue dye used alone identified

INTRODUCTION: Surgery for primary hyperparathyroidism has traditionally involved a bilateral neck exploration performed as an in-patient procedure. We present a feasibility study to demonstrate whether, with a focused surgical exploration, the procedure can be carried out as a day case.
METHOD: Eighty-seven patients had pre-operative sestamibi and ultrasound scans of the neck. When the results of these scans agreed, a unilateral neck exploration was carried out.

Upper gastrointestinal system bleeding should be first taken into account when a patient complains of melena. On rare occasions, gastrointestinal bleeding may be due to primary or metastatic tumors of the gastrointestinal system. Here, we present a case in which the localization of bleeding was demonstrated by Tc-99m red blood cell labeled scintigraphy with the final diagnosis of metastases of non-small cell lung cancer to the small bowel.

A 57-year-old woman with a history of a right modified radical mastectomy after neoadjuvant chemotherapy for stage IIIB infiltrating ductal breast carcinoma presented for follow-up bone scan.
