Multidrug-resistant strain Acinetobacter baumannii BM4454 was isolated from a patient with a urinary tract infection. The adeB gene, which encodes a resistance-nodulation-cell division (RND) protein, was detected in this strain by PCR with two degenerate oligodeoxynucleotides. Pruritus at the site of active acne has not been described before as a complication of acne therapy. We report 8 cases seen over a 3-year period at our department with localized itching mainly at the active acne sites, within 2-6 weeks of starting effective acne therapy. Seven had oral tetracyclines (oxytetracycline, Vibramycin or Minocin) with or without topical antibiotics or benzoyl peroxide. Only 1 patient received oral isotretinoin. A representative sample of prescribers of the drug was identified from drug utilisation data and the overall doctor response rate was 90.1%. The work presents results of investigations on Q fever seroepizootology in Bulgaria during the last five years. These data are compared with the preceding period from 1950 to 1983.
