OBJECTIVE: To report a case of acute cholestatic hepatitis associated with the selective cyclooxygenase-2 inhibitor celecoxib.
CASE SUMMARY: A 41-year-old white man was hospitalized for jaundice after 2 doses of celecoxib 200 mg for pain associated with right-knee trauma. Laboratory workup showed hyperbilirubinemia, mildly elevated serum transaminase concentrations, and cholestasis. Abdominal imaging showed no dilation of the biliary tree. Effects of iron deficiency on the distribution of iron and glutamate decarboxylase (GAD), gamma-aminobutyric acid transaminase (GABA-T) activities and GABA concentrations in different brain regions in young rats were investigated. A prospective clinical investigation of 45 patients with lichen planus (LP) demonstrated a significant association between LP and chronic hepatitis C. Biochemical measurements and 24-h dietary recalls were conducted early (18.9 +/- 5.9 wk) and late (35.1 +/- 2.0 wk) in pregnancy in women attending clinics in Montemorelos, Mexico.
