INTRODUCTION: Hydronephrosis and BMI are analyzed together with established factors such as TNM stage and surgical margins in a multivariate modality to investigate their status as independent prognostic factors for bladder cancer-specific survival in patients undergoing radical cystectomy.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: We studied a prospective cohort of 328 patients who underwent radical cystectomy for bladder cancer at our institution. Statistical analyses were performed using the Kaplan-Meier method, Kendall-tau rank correlation and multivariate Cox proportional hazard model.

OBJECTIVE: High-grade lymphoepithelioma-like urothelial carcinoma is a rare neoplasia in the bladder, and its relationship with Epstein-Barr virus has not been demonstrated.
METHODS: We report the case of an old male presenting with recurrent hematuria diagnosed of this tumor.
RESULTS: These are neoplasias with a great lymphocyte component, sometimes predominant, which may lead to histological confusion with inflammatory processes like chronic cystitis or even lymphomas.

We report, to our knowledge, the first case of high-grade ureteral obstruction caused by an inverted papilloma with coexistent carcinomatous elements. Villous adenomas are common neoplasms of the colon, often causing anemia or hemoccult positive stools. Less typically, these lesions may result in abdominal pain, melena, obstruction, or change in bowel habits. Intussusception may occur, but this complication is unusual in adults. Spontaneous bowel perforation attributable to colonic polyps has not been previously reported. We present here the first reported case of an adenomatous polyp with bowel perforation and bladder involvement.

Radioimmunoassays (RIAs) have been used to detect the promutagenic lesion O6-methyldeoxyguanosine (O6-MedG) in DNA isolated from the bladder tissues of Egyptian patients presenting with bladder carcinoma and concomitant schistosomiasis (bilharziasis), a parasitic disease known to be associated with the presence of N-nitrosamines in the urine. Ureteral pseudodiverticula are tiny outpouchings usually seen as incidental findings on retrograde urography during routine work-up for common urinary tract disorders. We report 37 patients with ureteral pseudodiverticula, of whom 17 (46%) had associated uroepithelial malignancy. Statistics on urological waiting lists suggest that there is considerable regional variation in delay before treatment. This clearly depends on many factors but is unlikely to indicate significant variation in morbidity either at presentation or during subsequent admission for surgery. Managers and politicians should be extremely wary if encouraged to base major changes in distribution of funding and equipment on a casual examination of waiting list figures. It is doubtful if delay in diagnosis or treatment seriously influences morbidity and mortality from urological illness.
