Drug-resistant bacterial infections and persistent biofilm formation pose critical bottlenecks for diabetic wound management. To overcome these challenges, a sunlight (SL)-triggered aggregation-induced emission (AIE) photosensitizer, designated as MTP, was engineered and incorporated into an injectable thermosensitive hydrogel. Featuring a donor-acceptor architecture, MTP exhibits NIR fluorescence emission, while its visible light absorption enables sunlight-triggered dual-type photodynamic activity. Crucially, MTP achieves ultrafast bacterial cell membrane anchoring within 15 seconds, deliver

Multidrug-resistant organisms (MDROs) represent a growing global threat due to resistance to multiple antibiotics, limited treatment options, longer hospitalizations, higher costs, and increased mortality. Although the clinical impact of MDROs is well recognized, their effect on patients' functional recovery remains understudied. This study aimed to determine the prevalence of MDRO infections across hospital settings and examine their association with changes in functional status. A retrospective cohort study analyzed 30 428 adult hospitalizations from 2020 to 2023 in a 294-bed hospital in nor

Antibiotic-resistant pathogens pose a significant global public health challenge, particularly in refractory infections associated with biofilms. The urgent development of innovative, safe, and therapeutically adaptive strategies to combat these resistant biofilms is essential. We present a novel, precise, and controllable photodynamic antibacterial carbon dot (B-M-CD) inspired by the natural antibacterial properties of the mulberry leaf and the bacterial targeting function of boric acid. This photocatalytic antibacterial agent exhibits good biocompatibility and utilizes its inherent antibacte

A novel compound denoted MBL-AB01 was isolated from a marine Actinoalloteichus, which belongs to a rare and underexplored class of Actinobacteria. This work demonstrates that the novel compound MBL-AB01 shows very high activity in vitro against six methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus strains, and high activity against a panel of three other Gram-positive strains, including a vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecium. Structure elucidation of the compound revealed that MBL-AB01 is a polycyclic xanthone antibiotic closely related to the bioactive compounds: xantholipin and lysolipin. Thi

Periodic assessment of bacterial contamination is necessary as it allows proper guidance in cases of eye infections through the use of appropriate antibiotics. Due to the extensive use of antibiotic treatment, many strains of the microbiota that cause infections are resistant to the usual ophthalmic antibiotics. The present study provides an updated assessment of the susceptibility of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria found on the ocular surface to the most commonly used antibiotic agents in patients undergoing cataract surgery. A total of 993 patients were included in the study with ag

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) poses a major threat to human health globally. Staphylococcus aureus is recognized as a cause of disease worldwide, especially methicillin-resistant S. aureus (MRSA) and vancomycin-resistant S. aureus (VRSA). The enzyme sortase A (SrtA), present on the cell surface of S. aureus, plays a key role in bacterial virulence without affecting the bacterial viability, and SrtA-deficient S. aureus strains do not affect the growth of bacteria. Here, we found that punicalagin, a natural compound, was able to inhibit SrtA activity with a very low half maximal inhibitory conc

Carbapenem-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii (CRAB) infection has a high mortality rate, making the development of novel effective antibiotic therapeutic strategies highly critical. Antimicrobial peptides can outperform conventional antibiotics regarding drug resistance and broad-spectrum activity. PapMA, an 18-residue hybrid peptide, containing N-terminal residues of papiliocin and magainin 2, has previously demonstrated potent antibacterial activity. In this study, PapMA analogs were designed by substituting Ala15 or Phe18 with Ala, Phe, and Trp. PapMA-3 with Trp18 showed the highest bacteri
