Gallbladder polyps represent a frequent and asymptomatic finding on abdominal sonography. We describe the ultrasound features of an asymptomatic 13-mm gallbladder polyp in a 29-year-old male. Video-laparoscopic cholecystectomy was performed, and histological examination of the lesion revealed a severely dysplastic tubular adenoma and chronic cholecystitis. To our knowledge, this is the first report of a gallbladder polyp already presenting severe dysplasia in a young Caucasian male without risk factors.

Gallstone ileus is a rare complication of recurrent gallstone cholecystitis. The classic radiographic triad of small bowel obstruction, pneumobilia and ectopic gallstone on abdominal plain radiograph is described with CT imaging. Because of the better resolution of CT compared with abdominal radiography and its recent accession to emergency use, radiologists should be aware of CT findings of gallstone ileus. We report a case in which gallstone ileus was initially diagnosed by CT.

Gall bladder disease is getting more and more common in Africans. Some present with typical right upper quadrant pain but some are found on routine examination of the abdomen. The diagnosis is now very easy with ultrasound scan of the abdomen. The treatment used to be laparotomy and cholecystectomy but now is with laparoscopic surgery which leaves very little scarring. The results of the Harare study show chronic cholecystitis with cholesterol stones and very few bilirubinate stones.

Resulted are analysed of complex treatment of 103 patients with duodenal ulcer. Infusions and concoctions of medicinal plants were used. The regimen of administration and composition of the cocktail from herbs depended on the character of gastric secretion and dyskinesia of the gastroduodenal zone as well as on the presence of concomitant diseases; cholecystitis, gastritis, hepatitis, pancreatitis, enterocolitis. Intragastric drip administration of the concoctions and infusions of medicinal plants favour scarring of duodenal ulcers and reduction of the number and duration of recurrences.

The first percutaneous cholecystostomies under ultrasound control with therapeutic purpose, performed in Bulgaria, are reported. They furnish the opportunity for local treatment of acute cholecystitis and chemical litholysis in biliary calculosis. Control of the latter was realized by microscopic determination of the amount of cholesterine crystals in periodically aspirated bile. Indications for this procedure are defined after thorough discussion by internist and surgeon. Transhepatic approach and long-term treatment with methyltertiary-butyl ether are considered obligatory.

This article has reviewed and illustrated the sonographic features of the most common pelvic masses that can be encountered in pregnant patients. Sonographic evaluation allows delineation of the size, consistency, and location of pelvic masses occurring during pregnancy. It has an important role in establishing the enlargement or regression of pelvic masses that occur during pregnancy. Sonography also has an important role in the diagnosis of cholecystitis and upper urinary tract obstruction and/or infections in the pregnant patient.

The case of a 40-year old woman who displayed 2 types of developmental anomalies is described. Besides the absence of the cholecyst aberrant pancreas was found in the pyloric duct. Pancreatic tissue was found also in one of the lymph nodes along the lesser curvature. In connection with the case the incidence of the developmental anomalies and symptomatology as well as the difficulties of the diagnosis and therapeutic possibilities are dealt with. No description of the simultaneous occurrence of the 2 developmental anomalies was found in the available literature.

The authors provide the results of studying the microcirculation in 85 patients with acute cholecystitis and 56 patients with mechanical jaundice caused by choledocholithiasis. The data were obtained with the aid of bulbar capillaroscopy during conservative and surgical treatment. Considerable alterations were detected in all the components of the microcirculation (perivascular, vascular, intravascular), correlating with the gravity of destructive lesions in the gallbladder, duration and degree of jaundice. The times and degree of the normalization of microcirculatory disorders were defined.

Gall bladder ascariasis is a rare entity accounting for only 2.1% of biliary ascariasis features due to anatomical features of the cystic duct. It usually presents with vague abdominal features. Ultrasonography is the most sensitive and useful investigation for its diagnosis. We present a case of gall bladder ascariasis in an antenatal young female patient showing features of cholecystitis. She was diagnosed by ultrasonography and managed by laparoscopic cholecystectomy followed by oral anti-helminthic drugs. She made an uneventful recovery and is doing great in follow-up visits.
