The choice of the type of instrument to measure delayed-type hypersensitivity (DTH) in mice, as assayed by ear swelling reactions, influences the experimental results. The histories and medical courses were reviewed in 154 patients with congenital heart disease (CHD) ranged in age 40 to 77 years (mean 48.8 years) who had not yet undergone cardiac surgery. A new operative procedure is described for bat ear abnormality, resulting from isolated hypertrophy of the concha or by a ventriposition of the whole ear. The procedure is described in detail and its advantages are stressed. It is a short operation which does not leave a visible scar and achieves reliable results. Fluorescence microscopy was used to examine the perivascular adrenergic innervation in the eighth nerve and vestibular end-organ specimens from 13 patients with otoneurological diseases. It was observed that all the blood vessels accompanying the cochlear and vestibular nerves from patients with acoustic neuroma or Meniere's disease were devoid of specifically fluorescent fibers, while several adrenergic fibers were seen around the arterioles accompanying the inferior vestibular nerve from the patient with sudden deafness.
