Development of the epidemiology and outcomes of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest using data from the German Resuscitation Register over a 15-year period (EpiCPR study).

BACKGROUND: Sudden cardiac arrest is a relevant problem with a significant number of deaths in Europe. AIM: Using data from the German Resuscitation Register (GRR), we examined changes in epidemiology and therapeutic interventions over a 15-year period in order to identify key factors contributing to favourable outcome in out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) patients. METHODS: GRR data were analysed in 5-year periods (2006-2010 vs 2011-2015 vs 2016-2020) representing changes in the European Resuscitation Council (ERC) guidelines. Group comparison of OHCA patients was made for epidemiologica

Clinical and Epidemiological Study of Intracranial Tumors in Children and Identification of Diagnostic Biomarkers for the Most Common Tumor Subtype and Their Relationship with the Immune Microenvironment Through Bioinformatics Analysis.

Brain tumors are the second most common pediatric malignancy and have poor prognosis. Understanding the pathogenesis of tumors at the molecular level is essential for clinical treatment. We conducted a retrospective study on the epidemiology of brain tumors in children based on clinical data obtained from a neurosurgical center. After identifying the most prevalent tumor subtype, we identified new potential diagnostic biomarkers through bioinformatics analysis of the public database. All children (0-15 years) with brain tumors diagnosed histopathologically between 2010 and 2020 at the Departme

Epidemiology and trends in management of acute proximal humeral fractures in adults: an observational study of 137,436 cases from the Danish National Patient Register, 1996-2018.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Proximal humeral fractures (PHF) can be managed surgically or non-surgically. Locking plates have been the preferred head-preserving surgical technique while hemiarthroplasty (HA) or reverse shoulder arthroplasty (RSA) have been used in joint replacement surgery. We describe the epidemiology and trends in management of acute PHF in Denmark with a focus on (i) changes in the incidence of PHF; (ii) changes in the proportion of surgical cases; and (iii) changes in preferred surgical techniques. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Data on diagnoses and interventions was retrieved from t

Epidemiology, severity, and risk of SARS-CoV-2-related relapse in children and young adults affected by idiopathic nephrotic syndrome: a retrospective observational cohort study.

BACKGROUND: Children with underlying kidney diseases display a mild course of SARS-CoV-2 infection, but they only accounted for a minority of cases until the spread of the Omicron variant. Nonetheless, idiopathic nephrotic syndrome (INS) has been advocated as a predictor of worse outcome. METHODS: We investigated the spread, severity, and risk of relapse related to SARS-CoV-2 infection among children with INS. The incidence and characteristics of SARS-CoV-2 infections, immunosuppression, and vaccination status were retrospectively collected from the beginning of the pandemic to May 31, 2022.

Predicting Mycoplasma pneumoniae and Chlamydophila pneumoniae in community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) pneumonia: epidemiological study of respiratory tract infection using multiplex PCR assays.

Community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) is a common illness that can lead to mortality. β-lactams are ineffective against atypical pathogen including Mycoplasma pneumoniae. We used molecular examinations to develop a decision tree to predict atypical pathogens with CAP and to examine the prevalence of macrolide resistance in Mycoplasma pneumoniae. We conducted a prospective observational study of patients aged ≥ 18 years who had fever and respiratory symptoms and were diagnosed with CAP in one of two community hospitals between December 2016 and October 2018. We assessed combinations of clinical va

Mapping Workplace Neighborhood Mobility Among Sex Workers in an Urban Canadian Setting: Results of a Community-Based Spatial Epidemiological Study From 2010-2016.

Mobility among sex workers has been linked not only to improved economic and social opportunities, but also to concerns regarding displacement, criminalization, and violence. In 2014, new "end-demand" legislation criminalized new aspects of sex work in Canada (e.g., third-party advertising, purchasing) while leaving the sale of sex legal. Utilizing data from a longitudinal community-based cohort of women sex workers in Metro Vancouver (An Evaluation of Sex Workers Health Access [AESHA], 2010-2016), we used kernel density mapping to understand and identify geographic patterns of workplace neigh

Epidemiological impact and cost-effectiveness of providing long-acting pre-exposure prophylaxis to injectable contraceptive users for HIV prevention in South Africa: a modelling study.

INTRODUCTION: Although pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP.) is an efficacious HIV prevention strategy, its preventive benefit has not been shown among young women in sub-Saharan Africa, likely due to non-adherence. Adherence may be improved with the use of injectable long-acting PrEP methods currently being developed. We hypothesize that providing long-acting PrEP to women using injectable contraceptives, the most frequently used contraceptive method in South Africa, could improve adherence to PrEP, result in a reduction of new HIV infections, and be a relatively easy-to-reach target population. Socioeconomic status and risk of cardiovascular disease in 20 low-income, middle-income, and high-income countries: the Prospective Urban Rural Epidemiologic (PURE) study.

BACKGROUND: Socioeconomic status is associated with differences in risk factors for cardiovascular disease incidence and outcomes, including mortality. However, it is unclear whether the associations between cardiovascular disease and common measures of socioeconomic status-wealth and education-differ among high-income, middle-income, and low-income countries, and, if so, why these differences exist. We explored the association between education and household wealth and cardiovascular disease and mortality to assess which marker is the stronger predictor of outcomes, and examined whether any d
